Hey, I was intricately involved in the making of this band. I encouraged them often because the talent was there. I wrote and co-wrote some of their songs. I'm the one that told them, Don't just be a cover band, Don't be afraid to put original songs out there, there's more where that came from. They went far in 5 short years, but what happens all too often, they had to get "real" jobs, and start families. I got two nephews, a brother, and a long time good friend in this band. Not defunct, not forgotten, and much loved, The Great and Mighty SkyWalkers Themselves!!! MOHAWK YARD M₩ ¥D

Yeah, but what else did they play?! They didn't set up on stage to play just one 3 minute song!

You are correct sir.. This was a party they threw just to make a video of Louie Louie .. I recorded 16 take's from the scaffolding they set up around the stage and from outside... They had three kegs of Heineken and they invited three sororities to come party.. The guys had to have an invitation from a lady to be there ... It was one heck of a party !!! Dick Peterson and I edited it together .. He was the drummer after Lynn Easton came out front to be the lead singer, when Jack Ely went into the army in 1962 ... After a couple of national tours after the song got banned by the governor of Indiana, Lynn Easton quit the band... They had a couple other front men for a few years, and then Dick Peterson came out from behind the drums and became the front man ... He also handled the business for the band ... I recorded this in 1983, and MTV had just started up... This was one of the most requested videos that year.. It's the national party song for college kids ..

@@jesterpro Wow, thanks for that detailed reply, which, if I'm parsing it correctly, meant they played that song 16 times, so you could capture 16 different angles with your one camera! It's certainly a very fun song, but I have to wonder if people didn't tire of it after a dozen plays! On Wikipedia, it says the original Kingmen's song was recorded after the band had had a 90 minute marathon session of playing the song live to some teen club the night before... I suppose this music video taping was a reprise of that experience! I also read that Jack Ely is not the vocalist on this 1983 performance.

@@borisstarosta7823 Again you are correct... There was a huge lawsuit between Jack and Dick about the use of the name "The Kingsmen" and the use of the original recording that was bootlegged 50,000,000 times in the first 10 years... Jack could not use the name "The Kingsmen" and Dick could not lipsync to the original recording.. Dick solved the problem by future recording's having such low quality that you could not tell it was not the original... Jack tried using several similar names such as "The Courtsmen" without any success... This version I produced in 1983 was a re-mix with Freddy as the vocalist..

They were together in an 80s pop-rock group called "Nu Shooz" (that John founded) and had a major hit on Atlantic records with "I Can't Wait" and a follow up hit called "Point of No Return" Seek out those two official videos. Influenced by bassest Stanley Clarke, Gary was and remained one of the best bass players around anywhere!

I have worked with Kathy Rankin since the late 80s, or early 90s.. She was producing video shows back then but later focused only on still photography ... She's one of the best photographers in this town or anywhere really ... She deserves all the credit that she can get for all of her hard work and skill that she shares with the public.
