90's Taiwanese/American kid here, so I basically grew up following his movies, interesting that he infamously went from trolling Chinese censorship to now basically making propaganda film for the government

I completely disagree with the notion that he is the greatest director in China, there is no one single good director during that era. Why does he keep using the same actress, and why is she always married off to the rich? Does he have no other ideas or stories? Why does the West praise and recognize him to such an extent? It's because America favors directors who criticise their own government and portray their country in a negative light, subtly brainwashing people into thinking that Western capitalism is superior. Yes, there is some good cinematography, angles, and storytelling, but nothing beyond that. ZY is not well-traveled, so his perspective is limited to China and the films he has seen. That's why his films often feel narrow in scope. I watched Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon-it was horrid, horrid, horrid. Everyone's intentions and agendas during that era were different, but aside from the great cinematography, the film was very poor.

Films are ultimately a subjective experience and everyone is free to have their opinions. However, I don't see why casting the same actress multiple times would be an issue. Is it not common for directors to have favorite actors they often work with? Kurosawa and Mifune, Scorsese and De Niro, Bergman and Ullmann, to name a few. Surely these directors' greatness is not in dispute? That Gong Li played a woman married off to a rich man three times is true, but then again De Niro played a gangster multiple times as well. And all three of these movies were vastly different, not to mention they are just three examples in his prolific filmography. He made films in many styles and genres, as this video (and the future Part 2) hopefully shows. Lastly, why is a Chinese director's perspective being Chinese a bad thing? Is that not normal? Which American director's movies have, for example, an Eastern European perspective?

How many of his films have you seen? Many of them are brilliant (I also don't like Crouching tiger...). He has done different styles. Sometimes comedic. Sometimes just drama.... How can you say a film like Keep Cool is the same style as the period dramas?!? My favourites are Raise the red lantern and To live (sometimes translated as Life and times, the Chinese 或者 is a bit difficult to translate, I would have just called it Living). The last line in it completely blew my head that I can still remember it a few decades later (我們生活越來越好, "our life is getting better and better" which is contextually significant as it was a common attitude at the time of people in China saying don't rock the boat politically but in the film the character's life has gone up and down without control because of political changes). This video is calling Ju Dou wrongly (it is NOT Ju Da... that makes it sound like huge/giant...). I feel that some of his films don't translate well though. I saw Shanghai Triads with 2 other Chinese speakers (one from China, one from Singapore and I am a Taiwan citizen). We all thought it was brilliant. The 2 English only speakers with us both thought it sucked. The way the Chinese names/words are pronounced absolutely grates my ears though in this video,

I just hope that they explore Rain's character more in next installment especially when dealing with trauma and fear. She seems less traumatized both physically and emotionally compared to characters like Ripley and Shaw (I want to see her sprayed by an acid blood and/or fight in her underwear, but that's my take).

Rain and her relationship with Andy were the best (if not only good) thing about the movie, so I would like to see more of them moving forward. However, I just don't see the story. *Another* stowaway alien makes it into the next movie by hiding on the survivor's ship? I guess they could remake Aliens and have her drift in cryosleep for many years and then be needed as an "expert" on alien encounters?
