Bonsai literally translates to tree in pot. So yes its a bonsai. Not every tree will be show ready after the 1st bit of work is done when home from nursery😂. Stop hating on people enjoying a hobby.

That's a good idea. I found the clay does breakdown faster and it works best for some types or even younger stages of plants. I have sat down and sifted so many things. I need to come up with a new invention for a motorized sufter for bonsai. 😂

Rent a small leaf shredder from Home Depot $20. Run the whole bag of bark through. Sift it with a half inch screen, and run the large leftovers through the shredder again. Oh, and wear a mask. 😊

Also, ya shouldn’t trim these till the limbs go redwood. You’ll cause the whole branch to die off.

@@buntongm i just separated some of my cherry laurel airlayers. being my first airlayers, i wanted to make sure that the plastic bas are secure on the branches, i tied them very tightly. and in reality it turned out to trigger a tourniquet airlyer or some kind of mix / hybrid airlayer approach. first, above the wire it started to become very bumpy, then later it broke and pushed the bark apart with houndreds of roots sprouting underneath it. i amended my root ball and added an additional pack of moss on this part which kept it healthy and allowed it to grow. going forward i may do this on purpose to trigger such root formation
