Theres someone on amazon that sells diy percussion caps that work really well. They come with a scoop, tamp and the caps. They also fit perfect and wont cause jams.

If you do not seat the bullet against the powder you will indeed get a higher pressure spike. But nothing a reproduction made from modern steel cant handle. 200 years ago it may have been an issue
@timesgonetech30573 күн бұрын
Actually it's been shown muzzle velocity and chamber pressure drop with an air space, not spikes, and the greater the gap the greater the drop. This is a common misbelief because modern smokeless powder can indeed create a pressure spike if the air space inside the cartridge isn't right. Different pressure curves. From my own experience I can say I feel much less recoil with an air space in the barrel of a muzzle loader, like shooting a reduced charge.

I purchased one of these 10 years ago. A year or two after purchasing the sword, the hand guard and pommel became discolored. I’m not sure if it is just my sword or all of them.
@timesgonetech30573 күн бұрын
Mine did too. One drawback to silver is it tarnished over time. I use Tarnex to keep mine clean and I'm thinking about painting the guard and pommel black, maybe with a high heat engine flat black. The blade isn't stainless either and will rust if not maintained. Real swords require regular maintenance.

You should put them in an old 209 primer tray before adding chemicals. Keeps them from moving around and when you have them all filled you can easily move the entire tray somewhere to dry. A regular large primer tray works too, but I like the extra space I got with the shotgun primer tray.
@thomassmestead99055 күн бұрын
You have reasoned this out along the same lines that I have. I shoot both modern and historical reproductions. I would not hesitate to use a BP reproduction revolver in a self- defense situation.
@johnlooser11275 күн бұрын
In 27 years of shooting BP revolvers I've only seen one chain fire and that was when someone inexperienced had loaded the pistol. As far as effectiveness, consider how many men were killed by BP revolvers in the 1800's.

Better this gun than no gun. Thank you for the test, Sir. It gives a great idea of the gun’s potential.
My capt Schaefer has replaced my cartridge weapon…..it’s just better for gunfighting I can’t explain it would take days. I had to edit this halfway . In Massachusetts for one if you shoot someone with a black powder gun there is a whole different standard of procedure when being prosecuted, it’s usually lies in the policy that DAs make between counties but many counties in Massachusetts (such as Bristol) have a policy that if you are not a police officer no matter the circumstances if you shoot an assailant with “cartridge” weapon you are automatically charged as a crime, a great example of this is the state vs jojo noe (the outlaw biker club leader ) and the state vs Anthony Bonaparte both Bristol county cases involving obvious self defense both men charged horrifically by Sam Sutters because of his POLICY he was allowed to enact as DA in Massachusetts. Just some food for thought

Throughout the history of firearms it's been said if a man could afford only one gun, it was a shotgun! I own two myself, both 12 gauge pump. And the musket which is also 12 gauge...
@bendean4255Ай бұрын
I own a couple of German drillings which are three barrel guns (Sauer, Merkel and older makers). With a barrel insert you can have three in one gun (I got a 7x57R under double 16 gauge shotgun with a 22 Winchester magnum barrel insert in one of the shotgun barrels). So a shotgun, rifle and rimfire in one gun. Also a scoped gun (claw mounts so can be easily removed and reinstalled. Price is very cheap for what they are when you import from Germany where people have to get tried of guns within so many months of death.

@richards.mchardy3556 I'm thinking about modifying mine more for defense: pistol grip, flash suppressor, and so on. The Mossberg 500 is (in my opinion) an outstanding shotgun platform. For a 'during the great SHTF' senario the Mossberg 500 is in my top 3. The question is in the 'after' the great SHFT. THEN I'd go with the flintlock.

No, man, you're 100% right on the, "If you can't perform a simple internet search to find basic chemicals, you're probably not ready (read: smart enough) to make this sort of stuff." As an amateur pyrotechnic hobbyist, we *hate* the "boom kiddies" who pop onto the forums without performing even a cursory Google search and start asking really basic questions about how to make Flash and other sensitive compounds. No. Just...no. Idiots like that result in new regulations and bad reputations. This stuff is inherently unsafe, and ignorance/complacency will get you hurt or killed. The most experienced people are also the most meticulous about safety.

I don't know, I don't live in Illinois. Everyone needs to be aware of the laws where they live. And not just in the state as individual counties and even cities and towns can have their own ordinances.

The critical drinker I believe it was two or three years before his channel really kicked off. In other words I wouldn’t call your progression as a Content creator at KZbin as mistakes some of these channels, just take a while to kick off. In fact, I would be very surprised if in the next two years, your channel does not make a lot of momentum . Lots of positive energy your way. Thank you for the content🎉

I'm not sure if an opinion can be wrong. I think the follow-up questions aren't for you to ask. I think that because everyone is different, your follow-up questions should be the factors that you yourself consider when answering that question. I would definitely pick my glock 19. EDC is important to me, and the MCK brace I put it in offers the versatility to shoulder it when I need to. I am still out and about too much for much else. If I was retired and didn't leave the house very often, I think I would pick a riffle. Preferably an AR-15 because of the versatility to chamber it in a 5.56 & 450 Bushmaster. (I am aware there're other calibers, but I specifically use 5.56 & 450)
@timesgonetech3057Ай бұрын
An opinion is just that. It can be based on a good rationale or a poor one, on facts, science, empirical data, superstition, religion, but it is still just an opinion. My opinion is mine, yours is yours. Only the future will prove historically who was right... :-)

Thanks for your content. I'm a day late and a dollar short here so take this for what it's worth. You're not wrong. I didn't see any one reply that I'd reject. What I reject is the premise. I have no intention of making do with just one gun. I suspect at my age (just a little older than the OP) I'll either never see or never survive such a scenario. It was fun thinking and reading all your thoughts about it though.
@timesgonetech3057Ай бұрын
They're just mind games, but games I think we all need to play. Can it really happen, what are the odds, if it did what would the results be, and so on. If you wake up in the middle of the night and your house is on fire are you too old to get out of bed and get out? You'll just lie there and die because you're too old to deal with it - or worse you'll just die because you rejected the premise your house might catch on fire? You can if you want. :-)
