I'm 13 years in my journey now, but I remember founding your channel probably 5 to 6 years ago, I like the way you present your content and your experience, even the (now) old videos still contains very valuable information for those who want to be a programmer ou work in tech in general.

I was on board with this at first but the more I read this guy’s comment replies and really listen to what he is saying, the more it seems like this is just a series meant to vent and complain about work. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure all the things in this video are accurate but the one thing you DO have control over as a person is to not adopt a defeatist attitude. Jobs suck, there’s not a single profession in this world that doesn’t have a harsh reality under all its glamor. But programmers specifically are in a unique position where they receive quite a privileged compensation for their work without ruining their body. The ball is in your court; you can choose to call your programming job “soul crushing” and “unrewarding” or you can realize you’re much better off than most people in this world and that true happiness lies outside of your profession in the hobbies, relationships and lifestyle you choose to build.

Programming 101 - Just because you have a college degree does not make you a good programmer. Just as people have natural aptitudes for say art, the same is true of programming and so way back we entered into the field of programming by passing programming aptitude tests. Logical thinking and the ability to pay attention to detail - focus - are key elements together with structural skills. Unless you are doing scientific programming high school math is as much as you will need for the majority of jobs. I started out Assembler programming and reading hex or octal program dumps were the only debugging tools.

My problem is that I want really badly to learn by DOING, not listening to a lecture. I have used Udemy, and I somewhat agree with your comments about Udemy. However, Udemy is mostly geared toward those who are perfectly capable of & content to learn by listening and watching. In fact, some of the Udemy courses I have taken insufficiently encourage students to "code along" because it is assumed that all students should be able to "get it" just by watching and listening. Some of the courses don't even bother to assign any "homework" or quiz the student. If my life depended on it, I could learn that way. Short of that, however, I am too hard-headed to cooperate with that style of learning, and my stubbornness on that point has hindered me greatly, professionally. So, I am trying to do better about that, but it is difficult. I believe the best way to learn is to dive right in. It immediately gives the student a feeling of making great progress. We learn as much from our mistakes as we do from our successes. When we get a syntax error, we learn what the likely cause of that error is and how to fix it. Lectures should be given in very small doses as the student gets stumped and needs additional information. This is the best way to learn, and it's really shocking to me that so many people seem to disagree. Commonly, a professor will lecture for an hour or more while students' eyes glass over, but that is just accepted by everyone as being "the right way to teach." Someone may ask how KZbin differs from Udemy or college in that respect. My answer to that would be that, at least, KZbin free!

I aam learning code and I was thinking it is interesting and also a bit "creative", but your video make me realize it will be the same as every job I did before. Just a soul crushing activity in exchange of salary. The race to find a good place, a good boss, a work that is tolerable at long term for the mind. I am 40, and I hate this fucking soul crushing world. I thought programming would be a solution for me. I now know it won't. I don't see anymore the point of spending life doing these soul crushing shit all day long. Life is a just a bad joke. It's 99% of shit for 1% good that's not enough to cover the taste of shit.

Work is always gonna be work. But your attitude determines your altitude. Programmers are fortunate to make a very privileged salary in exchange for their work. Others aren’t

Hi codingisforyou, I've been learning to code to become a web developer. 8 almost 9 months learning HTML, CSS and JavaScript. I was wondering I think I have enough JavaScript skills and soon I will pick up either React or Vue, not sure yet. But I was highly interested in C# or Java, it seems both are so much alike. If I went the C# route I was wondering if I knew HTML, CSS (flexbox not grid) and I knew a decent about of JavaScript like high order arrays, modules and now I am learning Async awaits and soon I plan to learn destructing and eventually maybe React. Would this be enough to know for the front end before learning C# or maybe even Java? Also, from looking and the Headfirst C# book, there seems to be lots to learn in order to become a full stack C# developer. How long did it take you to learn C#? Also, did you learn C# first and eventually learned JavaScript or just C# only? thanks and hope to hear from you soon, thank you.

What kind of thinngs take to be a good programmer? - You need a market that does not outsource programming to India. The rest you can do it, but how can you work in a field where are no jobs. Yeah you wore lucky... in 1999 was very easy to get hired like a dream..
