I don’t think it’s fair to compare this, considering the context and everything surrounding it. Of course Stefan only had eyes for Elena- she looked like Katherine but was a better person than her. He was intrigued. Caroline was a different person back then. He may not remember the moment he saw Caroline, but he remembered how she took her coffee. He remembered everything she did that made him fall for her. Like Damon said, not every love in “true love” in the mess that they’ve experienced it- Caroline and Stefan’s love developed from a beautiful friendship and grew to understand one another better than anyone else.
