It's very off key but it kind of works
@NYX_Music1Ай бұрын
It's very off-key, and rythmicaly doesn't project well. The second part feels like a whole new track that has been conjoined with the first part. Personally I would take them apart, and continue each as their own projects. Simplify the chords in the first part, add a groovy melody over it with some nice lead, and most importantly, fix the harmonies, and get it in-key. Good luck.
@Fexxis_Ай бұрын
bold of you to assume i wrote it with a key in mind
@NYX_Music1Ай бұрын
@@Fexxis_ not very fond of that. Nonetheless, try to do that next time, select a key to write your music in, and go for it. Will make it sound a thousand times better.
@Fexxis_Ай бұрын
alright, that’s fair. i was trying to write from an idea i had in my head but once that was done it was really just a bit atonal
@magicsofaАй бұрын
I don't agree with this criticism at all. I think the chords in the first part are awesome. My least favorite part of section A is the final descent down starting at bar 33, felt a bit long and repetitive and I was ready for the next section to just start already. But before that I was really enjoying the wonky, but IN KEY chords and melodies. It is really cool of you @Fexxis to listen openly to criticism, however some people will offer incorrect or misguided advice, and they probably mean well but are either injecting a little too much bias into their statements, or having assumptions that aren't quite right, or just lacking knowledge. A key can be anything you want. Being out of key means you are playing a different note than the one that is written on the staff. Now if your *intention* was to write a simple chord progression and melody, and instead you got this and were asking why it doesn't sound a certain way, it would be fair to suggest more consonant harmonies, more resolving phrases, and so on (this is what NYX means when saying "fix the harmonies" and "simplify"). However I didn't get the vibe that you intended something consonant and perfectly resolved. If that's the case, this part of the criticism just boils down to "I don't like it." Which is fine as an opinion... but not as an objective criticism of your work. I mean, if you intended for this to be jazzy, and then someone says "it has too much jazz", that isn't really criticism. Just an opinion. Anyone who doesn't already listen to music that includes these intervals will likely share the same opinion, or at least find it harder to appreciate. On the other hand, people who frequently listen to jazz or any music that features dissonance and tension will be quicker to like it. To me the main thing missing from the first part is a little bass. The harpsichord sound is so thin and there's no other instruments other than drums, making the whole thing somewhat "airy." If you wanted to make this part more full sounding, I think a few bass notes plonking here and there would be quite nice. As for the second part, yeah, ok, the melody here is really bizarre! It sounds like an evil circus. Again, here I would ask, what is your intention for this part? The chords are less dissonant than the melody, so it feels like smashing two different flavors together. Certainly an option but definitely gives off an intense feeling of "I'm headed to the looney bin." This is made even more intense by the rhythm of the notes, and having almost no rests. I would consider more variation with this melody, from a composition standpoint this is where I would expect the energy to drop and so I would tend to have fewer notes and just leave some space for the chords to ring out. Anyway that's my response to "just fix the harmonies and simplify the chords, it will sound a thousand times better" guy. Just because certain harmonies are popular doesn't mean you have to use them all the time
@NYX_Music1Ай бұрын
@@magicsofa Thank you for your feedback, well, this is why criticism is an opinion of the person and not a factually based statement. Everybody views the product differently and that's why opinions exist! Nonetheless, that's exactly where I view it the complete opposite way, through my perspective the chords didn't resolve well at all. And in this case, went pretty much all over the place. As the creator themselves later confirmed, didn't write it with a key in mind, and is clearly noticable throughout the composition. So yeah, I do not agree with you saying that this composition is in key or resolving properly. It really isn't. To your last paragraph, I'm sorry that I'm trying to make it short because mostly people will not like to read long walls of texts, therefore I tried to make my advice short and clear, which apparently the creator very much understood by their response, so there's absolutely no need to be mad about an opinion and a harmless advice that actually would come to help. To the creator, Fexxis, if you have the newest version of FL Studio, you should be able to find a feature called "Snap to scale" where you can select from various scales/keys. After you select, you can experiment with whatever harmonies you'd like as long as they are in key. Should sound good no matter what you do, as long as you resolve nicely - talking about chords, melodies on the other hand are a bit tough to master, but you'll get the hang of it.
