Good for you. I think it's okay to do a simple story if it's done well. We don't always have to reinvent the wheel...the wheel is just fine.

Sigh. I am glad it is an OK show, but removing the costume from the costumed heros and costumed villians does not work for me. I remember trying to explain to someone The Joker in "Joker" was not The Joker (does that make any sense?). I did like Joker by the way, but we will just have to see if Harlequin works or not in the new Joker movie.

I know what you mean. It would be nice if he still had a comic book sensibility. Even a slightly more outrageous costume could work.

I watched the film last night at the Ultimate IMAX Experience and Megalopolis is a very good film, but overly ambitious and disjointed at times. Many scenes are gorgeous and beautifully made, with some very thought provoking ideas and questions being asked. But the finished product is flawed and many people in my screening hated the film, while others were in awe of what they were watching. And there are couple walkouts. It is an experience! And seeing an actor asking Adam Driver’s character a question during the screening, was objectively the MOST unique experience that I have ever had watching a film. So thank you Francis Ford Coppola for making an original and ground breaking science fiction that breaks the 4th wall and pushes the boundaries of cinema.

Thank you for looking at the movie in the light that you have. I'm scheduled to see it tomorrow and I'll hold it in mind to the other great works he's done that the masses wouldn't understand then and now. Like rumblfish, which also had a star studded cast, be it on the rise. We need more people like you to look at things this way vs their simplistic views from their brainwashed popcorn cinema that's been the dominant for two decades.

This is a stupendous black-comedy film, with exemplary scenery, characters and situations. Appreciating this sort of movie requires an open mind, a keen eye, and a (somewhat sick) sense of humor. The brutality of the opening scene introduced the ghastly Albert. This character -- actually actor Michael Gambon -- DOMINATED every instance in which he appeared. Gambon appeared to luxuriate in being a horrible guy... I sincerely hope he had fun doing it. The plodding music took viewers from left to right across the settings, into the kitchen and then the restaurant, it was terrific. Helen Mirren initially balked at (due to her age) the nude scenes -- and then delivered with dignified sexuality. The gangsters, Cory and Mitchell and Spangler, were idiots. Richard the cook was a great catalyst, and Michael the lover (Alan Howard) simply got mixed up with the wrong woman/people. The Painting: The first time Albert's troop enters the main restaurant, The Painting SHOCKS in the background, a giant picture of all those guys looking at you! What a magnificent artistic touch. P.S. We got to see Dr. Corday from the TV series "ER" in one of her early roles -- Alex Kingston. Her face never distinctly appeared, but her exemplary presentation and posture were unmistakable.

Just saw this and there's a lot to like. Horribly dark in a few scenes, I get the trigger warning at the beginning. Amazing cast chemistry, too. And I was never bored during the slow burn.

Okay, just saw it. I laughed out loud so many times in this movie and so did most people in the theater. I'd have ended it where he disappears into the crowd in fan merch, but I was very entertained otherwise. Josh Hartnett is so good in this, he carries the movie. I really enjoyed the energy in the first two acts. I actually thought there would be a twist that Spencer, his captive, was The Butcher and Josh Hartnett was just a vigilante. For me, it's a Shayamalan classic: a bad movie done in such an entertaining, occasionally bizarre way. I think the tone was on purpose and the way Josh Hartnett could get the whole theater laughing while still being silent, just by his expression was amazing (like the pie and pop star scene). I would watch it again.

I'm glad someone is willing to tell the truth about this movie. And see through the hype. There is definitely a message albeit different from what people are used to getting these days and/or simple pandering to simple people. And if there wasn't a movie to steal from there wouldn't be one at all. If someone said J.J. Abrams "wrote" this I would believe it.

It's not a good movie, but it's not too bad either. The first half was interesting but then it went downhill after that. Josh Hartnett basically carried this movie. I like the fact that I can not predict what is going to happen next but don't like the ending at all.

This movie was also so sexist and honestly lowkey misogynist - the female characters just exist as one dimensional, unhappy, dissatisfied, lifeless, soulless side characters that just exist as props for the main character to react to. You have the sexy, crazy, manic pixie girl who’s also so sad (Florence Pugh) and the frigid, passive aggressive, Mary sue wife (Emily blunt) - 2 female stereotypes/tropes that so many all-male writing teams often default to. You even have the Madonna-“wh*re” depiction of women - women are either the chick you marry or the chick you bang but either way, there’s no nuanced understanding of women and the shortcut to make these female characters seem “deep” is to make them depressed or crazy. You can just tell men with no real understanding or insight into of the minds and lives of women is who wrote this movie. The female characters are written like what a self involved male chauvinists or male narcissists’ perception of what women are supposedly like - these one dimensional, surface level beings. I doubt there was a single female writer involved in writing this movie.

I sat through this thing stunned at how rubbish it was. A three hour trailer basically. Every scene is about 10 seconds long, with intrusive music over the dialogue, and I didn't get to know any of the characters as it jumped about all over the place. It's a very Nolan film though. Does Nolan have ADHD?? Awful
@juanitoflito48652 ай бұрын
Given this is a movie all about the making of a bomb... That means no action scenes. Everyone knows what the build up is for. The film is 3 hours long. The suspense he's able to produce from scene to scene which keeps you tied in. It's actually impressive. Any idiot could not just make this film.

I don't think any of my disappointment fell on the actors - they all played their roles well...some were brilliant. But the pacing, sudden cuts and jumps, and the whole "what was said" mystery made the film feel very much like a vanity project. I'm a fan of Nolan's, I think he has an almost singular talent to distill quite complex ideas into digestible experiences for audiences, and he appears to get total commitment from the crew and actors, but his tendency to keep moving rather than allowing scenes and characters to breathe can feel smothering as a viewer. That asphyxiating sensation is amplified by the almost ceaseless use of booming score while important dialogue is being delivered.

For me, it's no exaggeration to say I understood Tenet better! Oppenheimer was unbearably loud at times; I expected the bomb test to make me jump out my seat but all the other crashes and bangs throughout just did my head in. Call me dumb but I just didn't get why Downey Jr's character had such a problem with Oppenheimer. Perhaps if I'd read up on what happened I may have enjoyed the dramatisation.

Critics thought they were obligated to give it a good review because it ticked all the boxes: great actors, good music, cinematography, and persecuted Communist sympathizers. But even the sex scenes were boring. 😢

Star Wars nostalgia. I applaud Lucas for reinventing the Sci-fi film genre, replacing shiny rocket tech and dancing girls on the moon with gritty and worn work-a-day tech. But by the 3rd film Star Wars had jumped the shark and replaced all the cool stuff with muppets, dancing girls in slave outfits, and teddy bears.
