I was born at Culver City Hospita, 1948, I grew up in Culver city until I was 10, went to school at Van Bruen, the St Augustines. My grandparents lived on Carson Street as did we. That scene of Starsky and Hutch in the lot was where a Richfield station used to be with a car wash behind. Down Van Buren was a used bookstore "Briles books" . I walked past the the Culver Studios house on my way to school, then down Ince, always stopping by the ice plant for a very cold drink of water. My grand father worked at the Beacon Laundry. We loved when the Helmsman came down the street. Saw many a movie at the Meralta and the Culver theatre. We didn't have a car until late 1956 (my grandparents never had a car their entire life) we used the Culver City bus to take us where we needed to go., Then the RTD to other places. I got my shoes at the shoe store on main street they carried Buster Brown shoes. We bought many things at Steller and Skoog hardware. There was also a 5 and dime, but can't remember the name. We banked at the Bank of America on the corner. Ive been back to vist many times, still fondly remember it and in truth, always considered it my "home" I'd love to come back but as that old saying goes - You can never go back home again, especially at the prices today. Thanks for the memories!!!!!

So di dire una cosa controcorrente ma la caron fu sfruttata da Hollywood che, fin quando fu giovane, venne usata per fare quel genere di film leziosi e fiabeschi in quanto sapeva ballare ed era graziosa come una bambina

Only accusation made against him was by Shirley Temple. Shirley's memory is something to question whether it was actually Freed she met. In Shirley's book, she recounted a time, Joan Crawford, her then husband, Phil Terry, and the two children Christina and Christopher came to her home. Shirley claimed their visit happened in 1938. However, Christina and Christopher were not born until 1939 and 1942. Also, in 1938 Joan was still married to Franchot Tone. When Shirley was contacted through her agent in November and December 1988, she declined to provide a corrected date for her story. This is according to author Shaun Considine.

@Garsons-oq4lh great point. 👍 gosh, and now it's impossible to verify, but there may be microfilm archives at 20th Century Fox of meeting schedules. Very good point, however, that her recollection is off.

Farina was the best. Friendly, natural and at ease in front of the camera. As a kid (1964) I spent the day with a relative while he was working on a pilot that never got picked up. I spent the entire day wandering around the decrypted Columbia Ranch where up one street was 1850 Europe and down the other medieval stockade. There were dioramas and Western towns .It was if the place was haunted.

I am sooooo happy I found this channel! I have been obsessed by old hollywood and all the behind the scenes workings of it all. Also the old buildings; the stars, Mack Sennett, Mabel Normand, the old studios, just everything. I did a paper on Films in American Culture back in the way back machine in college on D.W. Griffith and my parents who grew up in Los Angeles in the the teens and twenties/thirties shared so many stories that just filled my cup all my growing up years. I have an old book from way back, that is a compilation of old Vanity Fair Magazine black and white photos and it's of the old stars from the silent film era. Oh how I wish I lived in California; I would be down there visiting in person! Thank you! Suzanne - Seattle, WA

Allegedly. It may have been Arthur Freeds offices but was it Arthur Freed? Humans can be very poor impartial recorders of the truth. And even when events are imprinted upon the human mind, it is often incomplete, and the element of imagination merges with memory.

Having worked in HOLLYWOOD for some 40 years in various professions including writer and studio historian, I congratulate SONY and the Culver City Historical Society on their wonderful restoration and new vision for their scenic arts/backdrops department... At 20th Century-Fox we had a much smaller scenic department long since gone, and earlier when I was at Universal in the 1970's, I don't recall seeing such a thing on their huge 400-acre lot. The gifted artists who painted so many life-like backdrops that sold the illusion of reality did a fantastic job for so many decades, especially when coupled with matte paintings, yet another lost art doomed by CGI! Great presentation... and I started out in 1970 at MGM's British studio in Borehamwood, where I grew up on the stages that my uncle showed me around... visiting the sets of TOM THUMB, THE YELLOW ROLLS ROYCE, 2001, WHERE EAGLES DARE etc. Preserving film and studio history in these streaming troubled times is more important than ever, especially with studios changing ownership and logos, and repainting their water towers... Culver City certainly isn't located in HOLLYWOOD, but it's a major part of it's history for sure!
