Are the rear brake calipers the same from 2008 to 2012?
@PiratePowersports
@PiratePowersports Ай бұрын
No, they are completely different. Brembo brake were installed on 2013 and newer Spyder models. The earlier models had other things that needed to be looked at. 2008 and a portion of the 2009 models need to be replaced due to the piston that will wear from the brake pads. Do not use aftermarket pads. You'll need the aluminum backing plates to keep wear to a minimum.

Well after owning one for about 3 years , i can only say its the worst crap i ever bought . Incredible difficult to work on , spare part prices are in level with a Bugatti , out of this world and they need it almost daily . Never had anything that poor quality , breaks down if you just look at it . I am trying to get it to work a few days so i can trade it in for just about anything , but no luck so far . So all you that look to buy a can am , DONT .

Which side of the fine tuning of the cable do you adjust if it's adjusted too tight? My friend adjusted the cable instead of the shaft.

That is crazy, what usually caused the motor to stick is a tooth from the plastic gear inside gets damaged. If you remove the motor from the Spyder and get the piece out it will usually work. Low battery will also cause issues. The plastic gear becomes damage from forgetting to cancel the parking brake a few times and sticking it in gear. Something has to give.

And what if you take the arm off and the mechanism doesn't release or rotate to take off the parking break? You're basically assuming an electrical failure with this trick. Not all failures are electrical. If the mechanism seized, then doing this will not be a solution.

Check fluid level, the center floats should be approx. 1-2mm above the outer ring. DO NOT overfill. Also you could have air in the line and the pressure is below standard. The Spyder will need to be properly bled and flushed. Proper way is with a computer, it's the only way to completely get the air and old fluid out.

Just wanted you to know I checked the break fluid and had to add a little just like you said, and guess what, problem solved. Thank you so much for helping me trouble shoot the breaking issue I had with my Can Am. Appreciate you. Take care and Happy New Year. 🎆🎊

In reviewing your video and others - a little confused as to the number of filters to change out. I have a 2011 Can Am Spyder RTS-SE5 and the dealer only claims one filter and not a transmission filter (secondary cap shown). I cannot confirm or not the secondary cap - since I have not taken the side off yet. Second - mile duration limits can be as high as 10,000 miles or one year with fully synthetic 10W-40. If information is wrong - I am sorry - but have researched this over the past 1-1/2 months, which differs from your video.

That’s exactly what I tell people. Except don’t bother with the screw driver. You do more damage. Just grab the top of the lever and move it side to side and it’ll come off on it’s own. When the lever is off DO NOT operate the brake button until it is reassembled. I’ve had several units jump the gear and damage the brake switch.

Dude, no offense, but this video SUCKS!!!!! I have to agree with others who commented that you should have shown how to do the oil change. This will be my very time doing an actual oil change on my 2014 Can- Am Spyder ST Limited. I usly take it to thedealershio where My hubby and I bought it and they usually do the oil changes, but I am not paying them almost $600.00 to do the oil change.

My Spyder is a 2014 RSS. The cable nut is 12 mm but the nut on the shaft is 13 mm. When I remove the shaft nut and brake lever there is a wheel with teeth that can't be turned by hand. Any suggestions?
@dirtydeedsrocks3634
@dirtydeedsrocks3634 2 жыл бұрын
Different Set Up. It has the Wheel. Which is a better set up but it requires a new cable and bracket to retro it to an older unit. In this case, it's basically the same spline design. Be extra careful when removing due to the spring. If you are careful you will not need to remove everything but just slide it off the shaft, holding with one hand and rotate the the shaft 1 or 2 teeth forward/clockwise and reinstall.

Thanks Pirate, that’s really useful..........Any reason you couldn’t keep a small spring puller in your box of tricks and pop the spring off before you remove the nut? (I just have visions of the spring flying off and down the nearest drain 😉)

Thanks. I’m hearing of this more frequently. I like the idea of not loosening the adjustment nuts. But won’t you need to do that when you repair/reassemble?
@PiratePowersports
@PiratePowersports 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, you'll need to return everything back in the same place but the cable will now be released. I usually put the lever back on with the bolt and washer in place, lightly tighten and put the spring in the glove box. Leaving the cable loose, this way you don't have to search for the parts. :)

It's tough to say without hooking it up to a computer. If it does need to be replaced, I'd suggest a laser alignment and have the front end checked out for wearables.
