I was there.. I think this was the last show they played. I'm getting my timing mixed up, it was the last show or they went to Poland after this?

The fact that massive bands such as Metallica, Van Halen, Iron Maiden, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains all covered Budgies work speaks volumes of how influential they were.

This is one of their last ever shows.. I will always kick myself for missing them before Burke fell to ill to preform.

PS.. My dream bill was Megadeth + Budgie.. That would have been a legendary pairing.

I think my dad I and I were sat in the same stand you were in that day. Tbh I don’t remember much of that day, only Trott and Cook batting for what seemed like an age. It was a small crowd too - I think Glamorgan are still paying for hosting that Test Match 😂

Tony Bourge is irreplaceable. No one could ever replace him. He took the real Budgie with him.

It's hard not to agree after watching this. That said they could have found someone better than this guy. Total generic metal player with weak tone all from a distortion pedal rather than a cranked up amp. Burke is really losing it as well. They hung it up not a moment too soon.

I liked them with big John Thomas, see them many times with that line up in the 80's, they were always spot on then.

to jonhn marcus. totally agree. Tony had "the tone" new guy just played with distorsion. wrong sound. Guts was a great heavey riff by Tony, but sounded all wrong with the new guy.

@johnnybs78 жыл бұрын
yeah i love budgie, but man, the guitar sound is all wrong. Bourge had such a unique tone - no guitarist the band has had since has ever got close to it. i saw them many times in the 70's and only sabbath could compete with them for heaviness. Burke - cant you have a word and get the original line-up back together? its about time!
@ZX13RG8 жыл бұрын
+john marcus I agree. Steve adequately replaced Ray, though not perfectly. Burke, Tony, and Steve were a new band that adequately filled Budgie's shoes. Burke, of course, could never be replaced and Budgie still soldier on. Unfortunately, too late did I/we realize the iconic and inimitable technique that Tony, so surreptitiously, employed. It wasn't just Tony who left, he took Budgie with him. Lennon w/o McCartney: no Beatles; Shelly w/o Bourge: no Bugdie. There is now a band that carries the name Budgie and does fair covers of Budgie compositions. There was surely a metaphysical aspect to Budgie. Long Live Budgie!
