They're powered the same as all other MTA subway trains. They are powered by electricity delivered through a third rail system. The third rail runs alongside the tracks and supplies 625 volts of direct current (DC) to the train via a contact shoe on the train's underside.

To be specific, this is an adult male Common Grackle or Quiscalus quiscula, versus a Great-Tailed or Boat-tailed Grackle. This appears to be the bronzed subspecies.
