I have been going through this for the past six months. I had an endoscopy done and it revealed a 9 mm cancerous lesion which caused my dysphasia symptoms. I have been undergoing immunotherapy treatments for 5 months and they have been effective in shrinking the tumor enough so that I am preparing to undergo surgery to remove and rebuild my esophagus and upper stomach. Please do not delay in seeking treatment. Contact a good gastrointestinal specialist and get tested. Treatment for this is improving all the time. The worst thing you can do is ignore it. God bless.

I never know telling people who have recently been diagnosed that I had the major operation 12 years ago. It was a difficult recovery but now the only sign that I had it is a huge scar from shoulder around my back onto my abdomen. Otherwise in good health.

I noticed any question about Esophagus , seems like people just doesn't want to answer the question , especially the G.I. doctors. If that's the case , why even become a G.I. Specialist in the first place . I went to 2 GI doctors and I asked basis questions and NOT one of them , would even answer it . I know I don't trust those first , two GI doctors , they shouldn't of went to Medical School , etc.

Started chemo and radiation stage one cancer…went home with a bag of 5FU….it was to last 5 days. 5 hours later it started beeping…I thought the feeder line was kinked or blocked. NOPE ! It was empty! I had taken 5 days ration in 5 hrs. Long story..but I think that was the cure for me. I made it through the effects of the 5FU and later went through the demo and radiation treatments …then surgery. They did a stomach pull through and that was in 2003. Dr said if I lived through this he’ll write a paper about this and it maybe will help someone down the line. There was no info for me at that time for such an overdose. Well ….he never did.

Its been a couple years of the feeling that something is stuck in my throat. Its always the same spot but occasionally it feels like I could cough it up. Sometimes it feels like its blocking my throat and other times, its barely noticable. Ive had nasal polyps abd a certai n amount of undiagnosed body inflammation with bronchiectasis after aspergillus lung infection and glomerelonephritis kidney failure (now in 'remission') with negative genetic testing and adult onset CF testing. Im frustrated that ENT only scoped my throat and told me it was anxiety. The 2nd ENT barely scoped my throat but it definitely was more than 1st ENT did. Im concerned something is starting and no one is addressing it.

Thank you! I am 85 yo female with Barrett's Esophagus diagnosed by an endoscopy about 3 years ago. Since the diagnosis I have made major changes to my diet and take omeprazole rx daily. I still have a drink around the dinner meal. I am trying to get a second endoscopy but have yet to get a the local. GI md to agree. My age is one of the first reasons I am given. Bah humbug! Age is a number that doesn't tell you about the full life I lead! I want to know if my current diet is sufficient or do I need to be even more careful. The second GI my PCP contacted has yet to respond and I sense the negativity....it has been over 2 months! How can I be denied the opportunity to check the disease's progress because of my age?

Dear Doctor Jonathan, this is Chloe and I found your video really helpful. My grandpa is 70 years old and diagnosed with Oesophageal Cancer Signet Ring Cell Carcinoma, and the doctor said the lymp nodes did not spread to any organs however multiple metastatic lymph nodes are found in mediastinum, left neck, bilateral supraclavcular fossae and abdomen and pelvis. Is that also means M1? And May I ask if that’s possible to do surgery once the lower area lymph nodes are removed from chemotherapy, thank u so much for your time

I was recently given an EMR and the stage was T1b but there was some muscle in the sample so I was given a PET scan and the option of an Esophagectomy to be sure, they had it all. It's an awfully big roll of the dice and there's nothing out there I can find to say what is the trend with folks like me who refuse the default option. If they did get all of the cancer then I'll have had this procedure for nothing and will have to live with it live with it. How many follow up scans are needed to confirm if there was still some residual nasties? They really don't tell you more than they can get away with I feel. We deserve better information.

Jejunum can be used as an alternate conduit. This can either be done via a substernal approach (with or without ‘supercharge’ by a plastic surgeon) or via the chest (which is less common). Ask your surgeon for a referral to a high-volume hospital for a second opinion

@@chapers6719 my dad passed away, the NHS kept delaying things and making mistakes and in the cancer spread into the stomach, heart and entire esophagus.... Had they taken my dad's complaints seriously, he would have still been alive, from last year September he was complaining about stomach pain, and the doctors were so slow in doing any investigations. Throughout this whole ordeal, I felt like they just left my dad to die, instead of trying to help him.

@@aamalik2310 Thank you for asking. I am feeling very unwell. After 2 CT scans followed by a PET Scan I was told by the oncologist that the histopathology report was incorrect that I have stage 4 metastatic cancer which has spread to the sternum and because of my age + several comorbities I am not suitable for surgery, radiotherapy or immunotherapy. I am now waiting to have 2 large kidney stones to be surgically removed before I can start chemo. I am feeling very weak; no energy at all and the cancer is causing me pain in my chest, shooting up to the back of my throat, back teeth and the back of my eye.. If I were a dog I would be put down, but because I'm a human being they need to be seen to be doing something just to delay the inevitable. If I decide not to have the treatment, I will probably last for about a year. I am really annoyed at the pathologist's report to say I was stage 3 cancer with no metastasis, especially when I worked in that department with my head of department attending my MDT meeting.

This was great. I was taking these supplements prior to surgery, also adding protein powder to soups and stews. I am now finding it difficult after surgery to eat as my stomach has shrunk. I had surgery using the Ivor Lewis method. Now I find I can only eat about half or 2/3rds of a normal portion. I am dropping weight quickly. I have been told to graze or just eat inbetween meals, but then when it's time to eat lunch or dinner, I just can't eat much because I get full quicker and then get extraordinary stomach cramps which are only relieved about 2 hours later after belching. It has been 3 weeks since surgery. I trust my new oesophagus will get 'broken in' and I will start to eat normally again. Thanks.

He has referred me to Shands Hospital in Gainesville FL, about 3 hrs away. I have two blockages and my esophagus is almost totally closed. I can't seem to get any answers from the Drs I'm petrified.
