I was on trip to Boston from the UK in 1994 and attended my only ever Baseball game at Fenway park in April that year. I didn't watch the Yankees play much this year, but from what I've heard they were a pretty sloppy team in regard to the fundamentals, though I doubt the fifth inning of Game 5 was characteristic of that. Those are the breaks though. It's not as if anybody thinks that if the Dodgers and Yankees played each other 100 times, the Dodgers would win 80 games. The Yankees are certainly a good enough team to beat the Dodgers in a seven game series; but they didn't in THIS series. The Dodgers WON because they played better than the Yankees.

So in the "what if" game, what do the Yankees do in the 10th inning of game 1 if Ohtani's foul ball is caught but runners do not advance because it is out of play? Do they still intentionally walk Betts with runners on 1st and 2nd with one out? The situation changes with every single pitch. Also, if the Yankees don't take advantage of Dodger errors, is that because they are trying to hand the game to the Dodgers? Maybe it feels better to say that the Yankees lost the series rather than the Dodgers won it but both are actually true.

The Dodgers won 3 games and got handed 1 game. You can try to say game 1 wasn’t a Dodger win but Freddie Freeman earned that grand slam, Ohtani put himself in scoring position in the 8th, and the pitching contained the Yankees to one 2 run homer by Stanton in the 6th in the first 9 innings. Games 2 and 3 were closely fought games where the Dodgers out hit the Yankees in the end and contained the Yankees juggernaut hitters (except for Soto’s solo home runs). Your team lost 4 games to 1. Sour grapes Commish. When you pit two good games against each other, often times it comes down to executing at key moments. The Yankees didn't execute in those instances, and the Dodgers did. Errors, poor baserunning, missing/hitting cut offs, not moving runners, making pitches in critical situations, can count as much as a 2 run homer at times.. That is baseball. The Dodgers deserved to win, and were the better, more compete team.

This is just some sad counterfactual theory. Everything happened because one team was better than the other. Even if the Dodgers didn't win game 5, statistically speaking would have eventually won the series like they did earlier in the season.

Brother Game 1 they made a bad choice to walk Mookie pitch to Freddie got burned. Game 4 you won straight up. Game 5 bad defense cost you guys the game. Mind you the Yankees Reclaimed the lead and still lost. The Yankees got burned and only solely won one game. There’s no what if’s.

In a 7 game series, the best teams win. The Yankees could get away with slipshot defense against lesser teams like the Royals & the Guardians. But in the WS their weaknesses revealed themselves. The Dodgers were the Yankees bitches when they were in Brooklyn before they moved to Los Angeles (Yankees were 6-1 against the Dodgers while they were in Brooklyn in WS meetings). Since the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles they lead the Yankees 3-2 in World Series meetings. The Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Yankees wasn't much of a rivalry, but NY and LA truly is!
