For an international student, are the career prospects much worse or more or less the same?
@RandyLy7 күн бұрын
It may depend on whether you have prior connections to a company (you know someone who works there) or if you have work experience from your home country, but I believe international students will have a more difficult time.

@@RandyLy Thank you a lot for your response!! do you think it will apply to any type of engineering career, or, for example, for mechanical engineering it will be easier?

@RandyLy12 күн бұрын
Right now, I'm earning$119,000. This is with a Masters Degree, EIT, 5+ years of work experience, and living in California, so take that into consideration. I'm guessing a fresh graduate with just a BS in Env Eng may earn around $60-80k.

Will this cause a drop in employment for environmental engineers coming out of university? Glad to see you’re uploading videos again btw
@RandyLyАй бұрын
That’s a good question to consider. Policies can make companies adjust to those changes, but I am sure there will be some backlash. Meaning, do you think a city or its people will be OK if suddenly air and water quality drop? There would be some form of protests. Even if jobs are cut, the effects of poor standards will still be felt, so they’d have to make up for it somewhere else.

There is always answers. instead of paying people to clean up trash.... They need to fine those people who litter $1000.00 plus 1 Month cleaning up trash! With that money they receive should go to fixing sidewalks and streets & highways. The Highway Patrol or other Agencies need to enforce littering and since there are cameras everywhere and people record everything they should get paid $200.00 to record people throwing trash out of there cars with proof of License plates verify that your vehicle is registered, identify the type of registration you have, and help connect vehicles to their owners. A website should be made to upload videos and get paid.

Completely agree. I'm getting tired of people acting like it is just another issue like immigration, gun control or anything else. Not to say that those issues aren't important but it is not fair to treat climate change like it's one of those issues that need to be addressed at some point and just not today. If we don't "fix" climate change, nothing else on this earth matters. No other issues--societal, personal, systematic--none of those will matter if we're all gone

I am currently in high school and thinking about majors, and would appreciate any advise. I want my future job to be something related to the environment /nature (not really waste water treatments like what you describe in your videos). By taking environmental engineering, I feel like I would be pigeon holeing myself (since my interests may change). I've heard you can take mechanical engineering for undergrad and then specialize in anything later since mech eng is a very broad field. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks!
@RandyLy4 ай бұрын
My advice for anyone who is still iffy on fully committing to major in environmental engineering is to just major in general Civil Engineering, since env engineering is just a subcategory underneath Civil engineering. Civil Engineering is just as broad if ever you want to switch to any other engineering field or dive deeper into env engineering, and is just as difficult as any other engineering field. I wouldn't recommend env science because you might get paid less than a env engineering and do practically the same thing, and it's less flexible than env engineering if ever you want to switch to another environmental-related job.

How can you clean up 2 miles in one hour? Every Adopt-A-Highway is 2 miles. You must just do it for one hour and leave most of the trash on the road.
@RandyLy4 ай бұрын
It is the freeway entrance, not the entire freeway. Yes, I only need one hour to clean up the entrance. If there is no trash, I leave. If the trash is too dangerous to pick up, too close to the actual road, or in a place that is too inconvenient for anyone to walk on, I am not encouraged to pick it up as they instructed. I am not going to put myself in danger to pick up a straw.

Hi brother I have recently graduated bachelor's in civil engineering I was planning to do my master's. Which would be better Environmental Engineering or Hydro Science and Engineering
@RandyLy5 ай бұрын
I don't think there is a wrong answer, but I'd still recommend environmental engineering because it covers a broader topic. Hydroscience sounds like you would be limiting yourself to the water field only and you wouldn't be able to change sectors.
