@PointCloudAcademy8 ай бұрын
Hi, compared to what alternatives? SketchUp with the point cloud plugin is one of the cheapest solutions for CAD modelling from 3D scan data.
@6677en8 ай бұрын
Well correct me if I'm wrong but all this does is allow you to import the point cloud and then you do the modelling.... So, I am a Master degree student in Building Technology and I wanted to do a BIM model of a historic building for my final project, and I tried to to do a mesh with the point cloud we did (my tutour and me) so I could export it to a 3D modelling software and do the model, but it's crazy for me to spend 770 dollars for a single building and I surely won't do anything else with it after I'm done with the project (in 3 months), and I tried HxDR 19€ subscription but it won't let me do a mesh from a 35gb file and I don't know if I should pay the 330 € subscription for the same reasons, also I'm doing everything with my own money... Also... Could you help me make the mesh? I Can give you the material of my final project and it is journal material for sure in HBIM, it is located in Tenerife, Spain, and it's a small fortress from the XVI centhury, if you could help me with the mesh (i tried cc, meshlab, rhino and they use 60gb ram and can't continue, also recap is equally expensive)

Many thanks for the very useful video. When using the clipping box tool I see you can either select 'n' for none or 'v' for view, but what is the difference? In theory I could select none with a cut thickness of 10mm and get the same result as in view mode.
@PointCloudAcademy8 ай бұрын
There are two tools for clipping point clouds: 1. Clip by Rectangle 2. Clip by line. After using both tools, you can change the size of the clipping volume either visually using the grips or using the properties. The Clip by Line tool has additional functions where you can select the thickness of slice, an option to for and UCS orientation. There are options: U V A N. U - will clip point cloud and create UCS according to slice line V - will clip point cloud and rotate view according to slice line without creating new UCS. A - will clip point cloud, create new UCS and rotate view according to slice line. N - will clip point cloud only.

why you have pricing hidden on your page? How much will cost vs Scan Essentials from Trimble?
@UNDETPointCloudSoftware9 ай бұрын
Prices are public and can be found on each Undet product page or in our online shop. For example Undet for SketchUp: www.undet.com/undet-products/sketchup-plugin-for-3d-modeling-from-point-cloud/
@Adrian_G4449 ай бұрын
Fair enough. thank you for the reply. Why dont you create fair use pricing? I would like to try your tool for 1-2 uses a month not for a daily workflow. I find your pricing on the expensive side if you compare your tool with something like Adobe Creative Cloud with a lower price point/month and offering all their applications. And they are on the market for over 20 years! I just think you should reconsider your pricing point as you offering a plugin and not a full software suite.@@UNDETPointCloudSoftware

What graphics driver are people using to work with undet? I have nvidia but it’s giving me issues opening up a file.
@PointCloudAcademy Жыл бұрын
This is mostly the case with Nvidia Quadro video cards, so if you plan to use the Undet for SketchUp plugin, you should test whether everything is working. If there is a request, our team is always available to help you and check if it is possible to make Undet compatible with your existing graphic card or not. It is rare to have problems with Nvidia RTX video cards like, GTX 1060, RTX 2060 or RTX 3060 or similar.

0:37 why didn't they put the scanner upside down when scanning?
@PointCloudAcademy Жыл бұрын
There are three reasons: 1. The tunnels at the bottom of the wells, 3-7 metres deep, are invisible. 2. The upside-down tripod broke after 100 manholes (the second one held a little more ~140). 3. Productivity and scanning speed to capture what we need to model. Using an upside-down tripod, we needed to make two scans at the bottom and the top. Lowering the scanner to 4 metres using an upside-down tripod is difficult and slow. And when you need to scan 12500 manholes - the speed of data collection and the most important factor.
@3dlaserscan-kazan Жыл бұрын
@@PointCloudAcademy thank you for such a detailed answer! it was interesting to study your experience. the only thing that is a little confusing in your construction is the presence of vibrations during scanning. but it looks like the compensator works well at faro. )
@PointCloudAcademy Жыл бұрын
@@3dlaserscan-kazan The scanner pad did not wobble because it was placed on the ground in the well. You can see the vibrating rope used to lower the scanner to the ground. Because it has to be left loose during scanning so that it does not vibrate with the scanner.

Hello! For someone doing pipe work and using point cloud data of an existing space and converting it to a 3D model, would Revit be a good option? I have a friend who currently uses AutoCAD and a specialized 3D Plant toolset, but he is looking to increase efficiency a bit. Would Revit help this person with better ease of use? I would appreciate any input you might have!
@vishalrana1312 Жыл бұрын
At Undet, we frequently work with Plant and prefer using Revit over AutoCAD for its ease in 3D modeling with the combined features of Undet and Revit. While the transition from CAD to BIM might be challenging at first, it will ultimately save time in the long run.

@UNDETPointCloudSoftware2 жыл бұрын
To import point clouds into SketchUp, you need to install Undet for SketchUp extension. Using Undet you can import almost all point cloud files into SU. Supported point cloud formats: *.E57, *.FLS, *.RCP/RCS, *.PTX, *.ZFS,*.LAS, *.LAZ, *.PTS, *.PLY, *.DP, *.FPR, *.LSPROJ, *.FWS, *.CL3, *.CLR, *.RSP, ASCII / NEZ (X,Y,Z/i/RGB) and custom ASCII / TXT file format imports. Undet Browser is a powerful yet simple to use point cloud viewer. Undet Browser is compatible with only structured point cloud files, which have a bubble view option. Lidar maps data mostly is point cloud files from a drone or airborne lidar sensors, and this data is not structured. Such point cloud data can be easily imported into SketchUp using the UNDET extension, but It is not compatible with Undet Browser to take 360degrees panoramic tours.

Undet seems excellent software but this video is not a tutorial and trying to replicate what is done here using after downloading the point cloud from the Undet site without step-by-step instruction is difficult and time-consuming and no better than just hacking around on your own. The video needs a commentary - sound or typed. At 1.04 a rectangle is drawn but how are the axes set up so that this works as it should without drawing a rotated rectangle; what point cloud settings are best for tracing; etc. Please keep it simple and don't assume any knowledge !

To start modelling there are many different methods: 1)You Point Cloud can be already aligned to axis 2) Using coordinates transformation tools you can aligning Point cloud to the axis 3) Set the axis to the Point Clouds using UNDET axis tools 4) Draw rectangular and start modelling 5) Use automatic feature extraction tools to find the best fitting plane and set up axis to that plane. Overall, UNDET will help you manage the point cloud, cut sections - profiles, get a clear view. 3D modelling is performed using SketchUp tools, Point Cloud you will use as a background. If I can be of assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us (www.undet.com).
