@@daoconcepts I enjoy your videos very much, especially the Snake Creeps Down lesson. I love the way you used the long stick to emphasize the details; it reminds me of my first grade teacher 50+ years ago back in Vietnam, where he scared us to death by arming himself once in a while with a long stick in class (but luckily for us, he never used on the students). I wish you could conclude your 16 Step and 24 Steps Form instruction with one demonstration from BACK VIEW; it would be much easier for followers to practice along. Thank you Sư Phụ Jackson

Thank you for this and other videos. I found your “easy going” style of teaching suitable to my style of learning 😊. Here is my problem with numerous Thai Chi demonstrations (video and in person). Many instructors are wearing “traditional clothes”. Sure, it looks “authentic”. However this clothe is purposely designed (among other things) to disguise person’s movement. I don’t think it helps students to learn proper movements and postures instructors are trying to demonstrate. Do you find some sense in my point?
@daoconcepts7 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comments. Truthfully, I have a custom modified top. I only wear traditional clothing when I am demonstrating or filming. Lol. When I am teaching classes, I typically wear a performance top. I will factor your comments into future videos. Thank you again for your honest opinions. Please come back for future videos 🙏🏽

How do I go from the old person version to the young person version?
@daoconcepts9 ай бұрын
Great question. I’ve been training and teaching Tai Chi Chuan for over 25 years. I’ve been fortunate to have teachers who understand and taught me Tai Chi applications. When you are learning Tai Chi, the initial focus is to understand your body and how to move it without stress. That’s why the emphasis is on slow movement. Most martial arts are about speed and power. In Tai Chi, we focus on rooting and balance. You want to be in balance when you engage an opponent, so you can sense when they are out of balance and use that against them. Unfortunately, it takes students years to master how to move their body without stress. The younger you start, the better. Most older students could care less about learning Tai Chi Chuan. They just want the health benefits of learning Tai Chi. Once you learn how to move your body without stress, then you start learning Push Hands. First stationary, then moving Push Hands. The goal is to learn to sense your opponent’s energy and use that against them. The principle that you are trying to master in Push Hands is to get out of your mind and come to your senses. Tai Chi has no form. It really flows like water. This is the intermediate step to learning how to fight with Tai Chi, going from forms to flowing without stress. Being an ex-Airborne Ranger Infantryman, I still have the gung ho attitude in me. I would spar with my fellow Hung Gar students. Hung Gar was my initial introduction into Chinese Martial Arts. After I hurt two of my fellow students, I stopped sparring. One, I hit with a palm strike to their chest and accidentally interrupted their heartbeat. The other, I struck them in the diaphragm, and it seized. I had to remove the energy I imparted into him so he could breathe again. When you are learning Tai Chi, you are unknowingly accumulating energy. I thought my strikes were soft. What I didn’t realize was the added element of striking your opponent with energy. Tai Chi is a defensive martial arts. I try and teach students to be Peaceful Warriors. That doesn’t mean that you allow someone to hit you. You should respond with a warrior’s spirit, but peace in your heart. If you think about it, most moves in Tai Chi are associated with a block followed by a strike. The breath is crucial to harnessing energy. So, back to your initial question. As a younger person, I would say go even slower and flow. Go lower in your stances. Stay flexible. Use the breath in all your movements. When you go slow and root, you will start feeling how you are supposed to move. That knowledge will allow you to use your opponent’s movement against them. Find an instructor that understands Push Hands. Find peace by being in the moment. During the COVID lockdown, I worked with a lot of autistic clients. Aggressive clients that put therapists in the hospital. I had to use Tai Chi Chuan on a daily basis in the beginning until the client’s realized that I was afraid, but more importantly, my goal was not to hurt them. When mutual respect was established, I started teaching then Tai Chi and breathing techniques. It really did help to reduce aggressive behaviors. Good luck with your journey. I hope I have answered your question. Please send me an email if you have additional questions or are looking for an instructor in your area. Sifu Tony [email protected]

🙃🤣 That's the way it worked in the olden days. I have to use Tai Chi now to deal with aggressive autistic clients without hurting them. I personally continue to train and teach Tai Chi Chuan to elevate myself mentally, physically, and spiritually in order to become a Peaceful Warrior. My journey now is to balance my earlier life of fighting wars for the US Military as an Airborne Ranger Infantryman. I wish you luck in your journeys 🙏🏽

Nice forms! I've been practicing the Yang form for decades Your 10 form Tai Chi moves is great for practitioners who do not have the time ot the inclination to do all 108 ( there's the 24 short form which is also great). Video tech comment: have your camera closer to you but still showing your full body. As it is, the details of your moves are somewhat 'diluted'. Keep up the good work.
