Its good but Steam VR just doesnt work with everything. Wish I could run it like an oculus headset and be able to run games like the luke ross mods. I have a psvr2 boxed with a pc adapter for sale as I still love my rift S and do see the point giving up so much user ability to spend more money on comfort pads and such... which feel needed. The PSVR2 hurts my nose a little. Its also feeling heavier and less balanced than the original PSVR or the rift S. My set up was totally fine on an MSI z790 wifi A board and was happily able to use Bluetooth smoothly. Personally if you want display port clarity getting a rift S is not a bad idea... especially seen as I got mine boxed recently for only £50 and with controllers that aren't cracked... most are by now sadly. PSVR 2 controllers can be confusing when in the headset if you let go and try to put them back on.... never get that on the oculus controllers.. a little niggle. they do feel good though.

Nice review, it's also what I would say about the PSVR2 (was rocking a G2 before too). One small addition: if you own a grahics card with a so called VirtualLink connection (nothing more is the Sony adapter) you don't need the box and you can plug the headset directly to the GPU with the USB-C. A lot of current AMD cards have this connection.

I think one of the biggest issues with wmr was that it simply wasnt very accessible, if they had ported it over to the xbox one s/x or the xbox series x/s it might have became fairly popular especially given the fact that the series s is wayyy cheaper than a psvr2 setup but wouldve also been significantly better than psvr1. Its a big shame honestly
@gspiderextras35865 ай бұрын
I understand why it never came to xbox consoles for a few reasons. Headsets were manufactured by multiple companies, they’d have to redesign the firmware on all of them, their main focus was for work purposes and Xbox wasn’t big on VR at the time. But then the reverb lineup released, and it WAS focused on games and simulators. Now we see Playstation redesigning the PSVR2’s firmware to work on PC proving that with enough effort, WMR on Xbox could’ve been a thing. If Microsoft played their cards right, the PCVR and console VR landscape would be drastically different and I feel would be much healthier than the state it is in now.

There is a video of someone getting the HP Reverb G2 up and running with the open source Monado openXR environment in Linux (instead of WMR). So I am wondering if it's just a matter of time before Valve releases "Deckard" and compatibility for these older WMR headsets will be integrated into SteamOS instead.

You know Microsoft is still in XR right? Like heavly? The hololens is stronger then ever with theUS army backing it now and is still industry leading in AR headset use outside the milltary.... and they are best freinds with Meta and valve now... So yeah I don't get the end of the video at all... What it sounds like you want is a Quest 3 with a link cable or air link or vitruarl desktop... it has every thing you wanted in MS MR and so much more... Also think of it this way if Deckard is what you've dreamed of it's still backed by Microsoft so yeah pretty7 much get a quest like us Rift CV1 fans choose too my Rift still works the same as it did when I got it in 2017... But the quest 3 is a pure upgrade in every way even as a PCVR always ready headset.
@gspiderextras35868 ай бұрын
I work IT and am currently a Microsoft-certified agent, I’m very aware of the hololens and Microsoft’s presence in the mixed reality space. The point of this video was to go over Windows Mixed Reality specifically, describing how the headset launched as a promise for a super simple and budget friendly mixed reality experience at-home. But that mixed reality promise never really came to the headset, with limiting hardware for everyday consumers and almost no MR software. But after little to no time, that “mixed reality” idea got canned and they tried to make purely gaming headsets, doing a collaboration with Valve & HP to make something good (HP Reverb G2). But because of Microsoft’s nonsensical WMR requirements, the headset had a couple major issues like the tracking and the unfinished WMR portal. The ending was supposed to signify how Microsoft had a good idea, but was scared to invest further into it because they didn’t want to keep up with technology. Sure, a Quest 3 with a link cable or the rumored Deckard may be my solution. But this big shutdown for WMR where every headset will be inoperable in 3 years makes it harder for the consumer to trust Microsoft, especially if they attempt to make something similar again in a few years. This is not an issue with the headsets themselves. HP and Valve did a fantastic job making the HP Reverb G2, and is still my headset of choice over something like the Quest 3 and Valve Index because of the high resolution, best fresnel lenses I’ve seen in a headset, and no video compression when connected to a pc. This video is about Microsoft, specifically criticizing how they had a ton of time and opportunities to make every windows mixed reality headset better, but lack the motivation to continue funding a project like this. Sorry for going a bit rambly and please let me know if something doesn’t make sense, but I want to get my point across that this isn’t about replacing my headset. If I wanted to, I would have replaced my headset already. It’s about losing a platform for companies to launch their VR headsets, and all the people who invested in the idea of easy mixed reality at-home back before the quest was even an idea. Now I and many others am being forced to replace my headset because of their poor decisions. Meta discontinued the Rift lineup not too long ago, just like WMR is being discontinued now. The only difference is that we still trust Meta’s hardware because your headset you got from 2017 will still work until it breaks. My HP Reverb G2 I got back in 2021 and my Acer headset I got back in 2017 won’t work after 2027. It’s hard to keep their trust.

@@gspiderextras3586Oh your fine my videos get that critique too... But just that last bit was a bit out of place and yeah it's unlike Microsoft as they support things from when the company was funded for exemple Lego island a Windows 98 game still gets updates in current windows and both kenacts are still supported even if they don't have updates... But you knew the riskes going in didn't you? As you said in the video a major con of windows mixed reality was that odd ccoupling to windows.... Also side note to my suprise is yes 1st gen MR Quest 2/Pro is 2nd and Q3 /AVP is 3rd Holo lens is just AR...Which yes it's bad that Microsoft did not decouple the softwear from windows to make it easier to upkeep or even make it a SteamVR/Octulas app I'm sure fans will keep it alive like pretty much anything popular these days unless Microsoft ban hammers the efforts which not being a game I doudt it will... So yeah odd to hate Microsoft for this and this alone.
@gspiderextras35868 ай бұрын
@@GreenBlueWalkthrough Here's the thing. My hate for Microsoft isn't purely for WMR. The headsets themselves, the software capabilities (for the time), and the idea are all great. But Microsoft more recently has had a habit of promising things and underdelivering. Windows 11: It was promised to be a simple upgrade to Windows 10 with some extra security and performance upgrades. What was delivered was a buggy, unsecure mess that was the launch of Windows 11. It took until now, 2 1/2 years later to have a comparable operating system and even today, it still is buggy if you want to upgrade your current copy of Windows 10. Xbox: The series s and x consoles are okay. They're not bad hardware by any means, but they don't innovate anywhere. But what was promsied was one of the most expensive games ever produced (Halo Infinite) to launch side by side with these new systems, and it be the largest entry in the series to date. It was delayed which I appreciate them doing, but it released in an unfinished state. The gameplay wasn't anything crazy, the campaign wasn't what was promised, it wasn't bad by any means but it was nowhere near what Microsoft promised. And now that the series s is around, Microsoft says every game released on their platform needs to work on both systems which is leaving developers with more work, setting the next generation of consoles back a bit, and having an inconsistent experience across Xbox platforms. Microsoft Office: This used to be a license you can purchase once and never touch again. It would give you word, excel, powerpoint, and outlook to keep forever. But since 2020, they discontinued the permanent purchase with office home and student 2021 being the only option available now. If you want to keep getting updates for your programs or want access to outlook, you need to sign up for Microsoft 365 which is a plan that goes for $70 a year. If you are somewhat into tech, you know that Google offers a lot of these services for free. Microsoft knows this, which is why a terabyte of cloud storage is included. It itself is not a bad bundle. What I have issues with is charging $70 a year and basically exploiting people who don't use technology much. Surface Laptops: These are just a scam. Constant hardware issues, software issues, expensive prices, lack of performance, these things just actually suck. But they have basically a monopoly on people who want a computer with a cellular plan. When everything is working perfectly, the surface laptops are good at most things because of the custom OS that is installed on these devices to make sure you are getting the most out of your hardware. But if something fails or you want more storage, it requires a new PC. And because of the way they're designed, if your motherboard fails the only way to recover data is through Onedrive which is $70 a year. Or another cloud service, but Onedrive works best with Windows. I wonder why. I could go on for awhile about this company and I apoligize for typing out an essay about it. I hate Microsoft. One product is not going to make me hate a company. You should view each product as its own thing unrelated to the manufacturer. And I am not saying that Microsoft can't make a good product, absolutely not. I love my Xbox 360, I use Windows 11 on all my devices, and Gamepass, as harmful as it is to the game industry, is a great way to play new games I otherwise wouldn't have. But if you continue to promise things and underdeliver or do shady things like selling a surface laptop without a keyboard and making you spend another $230 on top of your $1,000 you already spent for $400 hardware, it's going to hit your reputation as a brand. And to prove my point even more, in the short amount of time between now and when I uploaded this video, Microsoft changed their promise on WMR. In the next update to Windows 11 this year (24H2), the software necessary to make WMR work will be removed from your OS. The only way to keep it working will be to use Windows 10 or an older version of Windows 11. After 3 years, they will be removing the software from the Microsoft store/Steam that is necessary to make the headset work & they are going back to older versions of Windows 11 and manually removing WMR functionality from the OS. They don't have to do this, but they are. Just to make things clear, I don't know if this sounds like a hate comment or anything but it's not. I obviously didn't explain something properly which is bad on my end so hopefully this comment clears things up a bit.

Obivously the worst thing is the compatibility issues with some games as some straight up stopped accommodating to wmr and whenever I play them there are some features which are hard to use, i.e. switching fire modes on guns or being allowed to use the joystick instead of the touchpad.
