is the tracking decent?
@gspiderextras
@gspiderextras 2 сағат бұрын
The tracking I would say is on par, if not then ever so slightly better than the Quest 3. The Quest definitely wins when it comes to consistency amongst different types of rooms but at least for me, someone with a well lit environment and walls filled to the brim with nerd stuff, I have yet to see any issues. But if you’re looking for raw specs, I believe the PSVR2 tracks at either 90hz or 120hz. It feels like 120hz and the passthrough cameras are 120hz, but I feel like I remember reading somewhere that they might still track at 90. That being said if I’m having trouble distinguishing an extra 30hz of tracking being added to my hands, it goes to show how well its worked for me.

At least where I am, we have regular stock at most retailers. I work for Best Buy and according to our warehouse system, half the stores within a 50 mile radius of me have 2+ headsets and I still see them in targets/walmarts regularly. I know they’re cutting back production and this is just the Philadelphia area so availability may vary, but I haven’t seen any issues with stock yet.

My first ever headset was the HTC Vive in 2019 since that's what all my buddies had. Conveniently I had finally saved up some more money when Alyx was announced so I was deciding between buying the Index headset or controllers. Ended up going with the controllers. Fast forward a while and I wanted to update my headset since the Vive was pretty dated, but so was the Index. Ended up finding the Reverb G2 v2 which had the same headstrap as the index, but higher res screens which seemed nearly perfect. I found a 3rd party program that syncs SteamVR and WMR playspaces so that I'm able to use my Index controllers with my Reverb G2. IMO this is one of the best (relatively reasonably priced) VR setups that you can get. Yeah there are some kinks with the 3rd party software, but once you figure out those kinks its not too bad. WMR even switches my audio devices automatically when I open the program which is amazing. Honestly it's been a very solid setup and I'm gonna miss it when it's no longer usable. I'm going to hold onto this setup for as long as I can. Hopefully Valve releases their new headset by the time WMR no longer works. Hopefully I'll be able to afford it also lmao.

It's hard to say if it's worth buying with Valve's new headset potentially around the corner, but I've had nothing but a good experience with using the PSVR2 on PC. It's had some issues, specifically the screen door effect is more noticeable compared to the reverb and there is no audio, but it's a very nice headset and the OLED panel looks photo-realistic in games like Into the Radius 2 and Half-Life: Alyx with the inky blacks in dark environments and blinding whites with bright light sources. It's native SteamVR as well so don't quote me, but I believe you can use the index controllers with it too which I'd honestly recommend. The PSVR2 controllers are cool on the console, but they're probably my least favorite controllers for most games because of their design. Definitely not bad, but I find them uncomfortable and accessories like hand straps or gun stock options are almost nonexistent.

@@gspiderextras Yeah I considered the PSVR2 but it felt more like a side-grade than an upgrade to me since things like eye tracking and haptics don't work on PC. Otherwise yeah, PSVR2 would be almost exactly what I'm looking for. I do want to try a high res OLED screen though. The OG Vive is OLED but it's also so low res that half your vision is black from the screendoor effect anyways lol

I had only used Quest headsets for PCVR (I have used Q1, 2, and 3 for PCVR) and going from a Brick on my face to the PSVR2 was an incredible experience. It’s better than Quest headsets for PCVR and it’s actually cheap compared to literally any other PCVR headset. I can see myself using this more in the future when SLZ makes more VR games (I NEED MORE GAMES! I HATE VRCHAT AND NEED ACTUAL GAMES).

it’d be nice, but with the way the g2 firmware works, creating something that will actually work seems to be difficult. ive never done any projects like that but since part of its core functionality required extra software that is now removed from windows, my assumption is that youd either have to re-write the firmware from the ground up or create some sort of plugin for the OS.

I recommend PICO 4 as the best PC VR. I bought PSVR2 last week to connect to the computer. I think it is not ideal. The picture quality is too poor. Moreover, I spent three days solving the Bluetooth problem. As a result, PSVR2 is not ideal for various games. Although Uncompressed image quality. However, the Fresnel lens cancels each other out. Although the OLED color is good, the poor peripheral image quality is very annoying. I personally have QUEST3 and PICO4 devices, and the computer is 4090.

How do I get the image sharper? The colors and the blacks are definitely better than my Quest 2, but it's not that much sharper than my Q2 running on VD or Link cable. I've messed around with the lens adjustment, the band and scope adjustment. Users rave about the uncompressed image out of a DP connection. I was expecting to be blown away by the difference in clarity, like night and day difference. I haven't seen it so far.
@gspiderextras
@gspiderextras Ай бұрын
So just wanna make this clear first, but the resolution I recommended in the video is wrong. 70% should be the minimum percentage you set the resolution to, with it recommended being upscaled depending on the game for extra sharpness. The higher resolution, typically the less anti aliasing youll need. It’s definitely more performance heavy than anti aliasing but its raw video, so itll look much more crisp than any anti aliasing will. But make sure any frame generation is disabled, this will make your games run at 60fps and use AI to generate 60 more frames. It looks horrible, disable it if you haven’t already. But that’s about all it took for me. I will say that compression was noticeable on a game by game basis, same with sharpness. I found some games like Pavlov and Half Life Alyx look extremely sharp and run really well on the headset, while others like metro awakening i cannot get to look clean. I have a pretty high end machine with a ton of software optimizations and constant tune-ups done to it because im a crazy person, so performance may vary depending on the build. But at least for me, games like tabor were night and day when it came to the Quest’s compression and it made a lot of the minute details much clearer.
@normanq1206
@normanq1206 Ай бұрын
@ I finally got the headset to show me a clearer image last night, one that I was pleased with, after a lot of tweaking and adjusting. The colors and blacks are definitely better than the quest. The clarity is slightly better, but the sweet spot is limited. I have to constantly adjust the headset to maintain the sweet spot. With the Quest, I don’t have to hunt for a sweet spot. So the setup process is definitely more cumbersome and you can run in to a bunch of issues. Some users don’t run in to any, but I definitely did. The setup for Quest is much easier either wireless or wired. I would recommend the PSVR 2 if you already have a gaming PC and you don’t mind messing with your computer to get the headset working the way you want. If you only have a gaming laptop, stick with Quest as most laptops don’t have a dedicated DisplayPort and the PC adapter does not work with USB-C. And most USB-C ports on laptops are connected to the integrated GPU, not the discrete GPU, so it won’t work. Anyways, this has been my experience so far. I was playing HL Alyx and Riven. Both looked really good with the vibrant colors and the deep blacks and I can see the intricate details on objects in the environment. I wish the sweet spot was bigger and the image was clearer/sharper. I think the $350 Black Friday deal for the PSVR 2 is about the right amount to spend for this mid range headset since you also have to add the cost of buying the PC adapter.

Its good but Steam VR just doesnt work with everything. Wish I could run it like an oculus headset and be able to run games like the luke ross mods. I have a psvr2 boxed with a pc adapter for sale as I still love my rift S and do see the point giving up so much user ability to spend more money on comfort pads and such... which feel needed. The PSVR2 hurts my nose a little. Its also feeling heavier and less balanced than the original PSVR or the rift S. My set up was totally fine on an MSI z790 wifi A board and was happily able to use Bluetooth smoothly. Personally if you want display port clarity getting a rift S is not a bad idea... especially seen as I got mine boxed recently for only £50 and with controllers that aren't cracked... most are by now sadly. PSVR 2 controllers can be confusing when in the headset if you let go and try to put them back on.... never get that on the oculus controllers.. a little niggle. they do feel good though.

One small addition: if you own a grahics card with a so called VirtualLink connection (nothing more is the Sony adapter) you don't need the box and you can plug the headset directly to the GPU with the USB-C. A lot of current AMD cards have this connection.

I understand why it never came to xbox consoles for a few reasons. Headsets were manufactured by multiple companies, they’d have to redesign the firmware on all of them, their main focus was for work purposes and Xbox wasn’t big on VR at the time. But then the reverb lineup released, and it WAS focused on games and simulators. Now we see Playstation redesigning the PSVR2’s firmware to work on PC proving that with enough effort, WMR on Xbox could’ve been a thing. If Microsoft played their cards right, the PCVR and console VR landscape would be drastically different and I feel would be much healthier than the state it is in now.
