Hello sir, i have a question. What if i have 75 lpi lens, with 75,55 pitch test, my printer 600 dpi. I have 2 picture, so 600/75,55=7,94. So 1st picture is 4 and 2nd picture is 4 ? Or flip 1 ABBA - flip 2 ABBA? Thanks for your time.
@MichaelBrownArtist2 күн бұрын
ABBA. Let your interlacing software output the result at 600ppi

Thanks for this useful video, Michael. I wanted some advice, please. I've been using 50 lpi with a 600 ppi resolution printer, but recently I changed my printer to one with 720 ppi resolution. With 720/50 equalling 14.4 images, how do I workout how many images can use? Or do I have to consider using different lpi lenses altogether? Many thanks for your help.
@MichaelBrownArtist9 күн бұрын
PPI/LPI is a guideline, not a rule. Don't work about a precise number of frames. Modern interlacing software doesn't care and will use any amount. Use 14 or 15, whichever you prefer. It all gets interpolated, your 50 LPI isn't really 50, it's something like 50.XX (your pitch test result).

@MichaelBrownArtist Many thanks for making time to reply to my question, Michael. For some reason my lenticular looks rough around the edges when printed on Epson printer with 720ppi. But if I print on my old printer with 600ppi, the same lenticular looks fine.

This doesn't seem to actually work for still images or at least not for me. Tracker won't track the target point at all. Would be cool if you could show this working with still images.
@MichaelBrownArtist15 күн бұрын
I generally use this for still photos made with a mirrorless camera, so I know it works. Here is my suggestion. Put the small tracker box over the eye (or your target). There is another white box around the tracker. Stretch that our wide enough so it sees where the eye moves to in the next frame. I think that will be your solution.

Hello, my 50 LPI lenticular plate works, but when I try to do it on a 75 LPI plate, it does not work. Even if I do the same application, 75 LPI does not appear. I found the correct ratio on my field test paper, I write it down but when I remove it from the grape app it doesn't work. What could be the reason? It looks more fragmented.
@MichaelBrownArtist19 күн бұрын
The higher the LPI the more problems with ghosting and alignment. I'm a fan of 40LPI. Make sure your pitch test is accurate.

This is better than banana taped in the the wall that cost million dollars. Also great work👍, if i may suggest if you could make it 3 picture motion (left/middle/right) that would be cool.
@MichaelBrownArtist15 күн бұрын
You can definitely use three images for lenticular but you there is usually ghosting between frames. When I first started I used 4 photos showing each of the seasons. I later learned that using the prettiest of the warm seasons contrasted with winter sold the best. So I now generally use just two views.

Is the 3D Master Kit the best option for creating 3D lenticular prints?
@MichaelBrownArtistАй бұрын
It’s very good software for making 3D lenticulars. I haven’t test every program on the market and I don’t know what type of 3D prints you want to make (actually photography, modeling software, or conversions), so I don’t know what’s best for you.
@GBREAL0129 күн бұрын
@@MichaelBrownArtist I mainly do conversions, which means I need to use depth maps to generate frames.

maybe this is a stupid question, but how do you measure pitch? Is it the thicknesss?
@MichaelBrownArtistАй бұрын
Most of the interlacing programs have a pitch test function. It allows you to generate a chart of vertical lines at a variety of pitch values. You then place your lenticular sheet over the pitch test chart and view it from the desired printing viewing distance looking for a band that is a solid color. Download the trial version of 3DMasterKit. It has a pitch test function and you can go through their tutorial.

Hey Michael, I am really loving your lenticular insight. I am excited to try it out for myself. I work at the University of North Florida in the photography department and think this would be a great lesson for next semester. I have some questions about choosing the right LPI. Most students are printing on 13x19 paper at biggest. For the best quality lenticular at this size what LPI density would you suggest?

Hi there! Im going to order some lenticular sheets for a 3d project and wanted to print it with my selphy printer. I only discovered this printer has a pretty low DPI of only 300x300. as the general rule of the tumb was 10x value of the printers DPI for LPI it would require 1000DPI to make a 100LPI print. Do you think it would be possible to make 100LPI prints on the selphy or advise another print for that?
@MichaelBrownArtistАй бұрын
I’m not aware of the 10x guideline, but 100LPI will not show much depth. In general, the lower the LPI and the narrower the viewing angle - the more depth.
@ristotanov1039Ай бұрын
Can I ask why do we upscale the image to 100.2% when the lenticular sheet is smaller then 40 lpi. Why do we make the image larger if the sheet is smaller ? Little confusing
@MichaelBrownArtistАй бұрын
It’s not the sheet size that matters, you are trying to get the pitch to match the sheets LPI at a given viewing distance.
@julioctoledo8336Ай бұрын
Hello, I really like your work. Could you generate a calibrator for 100 and 160 lpi sheets? how much would you charge me? The calibrator would have to be for printing at 600 DPI and 720 DPI

if i want a 3 or 4 flip images, i should put 1-22-33-1?

You're close, but with that combo you are seeing both 2 & 3 when centered. So 11-22-33, Frame two is centered.

Perhaps the video format would allow you to add subtle 3d "clues" to an otherwise still image, for example in a picture taken outdoors any plants or whatever in the background could moving with the wind

It really depends on your interlacing software. In some you can use 3-frames (1,2,3). Other programs might want 18 (111111,222222,333333). Experiment.

Higher LPI sheets (100+) are for litho printers, not inkjet printers. Lower LPIs work better with inkjet producing less ghosting and better 3D in most cases.
