I guess your car has double headlight bulb setup with Bilux + H1 for high beams. Double filament Bilux bulb only wired for dipped beams.

My grandfather had a Citroën GSA in the 1980's. I never understood how the engine temperature was regulated. 🤷‍♂️ Is the air-cooling regulated in any way?

Great work, bravo. And great music! I think the most difficult in a GS is to rebuild the gearbox, due to the setups difficulty. The model is also interesting : club 1220, 1974, meaning phase 1, with nice pointed rear lights.

Thanks Xavier. I fully agree that the 1974 Citroen GS was the cleanest and best looking of all the models. I agree with the cathedral tail lights and on later models like the pallas, to strip down the side distracted from the clean lines of the Citroen GS. I found the GS gearbox one of the best gear boxes to work on. Many of the ball bearings in it were easy to replace. They were a standard size and could be bought from my local bearing shop. This included the large roller bearings that carried the differential. The double row thrust bearings are hard to come by and are usually new old stock. If you can get them, they are very expensive. I didn't go to all the trouble of resetting the clearance between the crown gear and Pinion in the differential. I checked the backlash just using my hand to turn the pinion gear. It felt about right and so I just let it go. The gearbox is sweet and quiet. The synchro mesh worked very well in all gears now that I have replaced the third gear synchro ring. This video has additional information on the work I did on the gear box. Have a good day. Cheers Kim kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZesm4Kal9p4jac

Actually there are a couple of rear fanged snakes that are technically poisonous as well as venomous but usually yes snakes are venomous only.

Thanks Mike. I thought that Bob was being a bit too pedantic with his definition of poisonous and venomous. Good to have your clarification. Cheers Kim

I have one same colour 1974 but, an estate or Safari as I like to call it, as I can't afford a DS SAFARI. Just finished total resto on my friend's DS Sedan and he and I have mine in a thousand pieces at the moment. I almost don't want to finish it as I find it cathartic to just potter about at my age. I really enjoyed your video indeed. "Citromec" is my hero but, you come a close second. Bonjour and Au revoir from Melbourne. Pierre

That's a beautiful bearing puller you're using at 8:45 for the gearbox shafts, is this an official citroen tool or did you purchase this somewhere? I'm in need of a similar tool to overhaul my own gearbox.

From memory I bought the gear puller from SuperCheap Auto in Newcastle, Australia. The brand is Toledo. It is hydraulic and has up to 10 tonnes of force. I think it cost about $200. Similar hydraulic gear pullers are also available on eBay.

Awesome. Wish we got Citroën’s in the USA. Used to work at a shop in LA that specialized in SM’s (boss was friends with Leno, we’d work on his and his DS, 2CV, and 11CV Traction Avant). It was where I learned to work on cars, so going to work at a normal garage after it shut down was a big adjustment.

Hello GSGB1220, the most difficult part of the job was to actually to source new original silent block Bushes for the lower suspension. The next most difficult thing was to knock the old bushes out of the lower suspension arms. Just be persistent and they should come eventually. If you are having trouble removing the old bushes, try a hacksaw cut down the inside of the tube which will help relieve some of the pressure. Apart from that, the job is reasonably straightforward. The large bolts that hold the lower arms should be able to be removed without too much difficulty. Sometimes you have to put in indent into the firewall to get an extra inch of movement to remove the bolts. Good luck. I watched your other videos. What was the problem with your gearbox. I reconditioned my gearbox and it came up very good. The main thing I did was replace the synchro on 3rd gear. I was able to get a second hand part. Also many of the bearings are standard size and you can buy them at your local bearing shop. The two thrust bearings in the gearbox are special sizes for Citroen GS so they will be expensive and hard to come by. The large roller bearings on the differential were also stock size and were fairly cheap to replace. I found the GS gearbox fairly straightforward and good to work on. I was able to re-use the thrust bearings on my gearbox. There are also some needle bearings I think from memory and they were serviceable so I did not replace them. Once again good luck.

I want to do exactly the same with an identical machine GSA 1300 that I want to treat it and make it like you did yours. What cleaning materials did you use? To clean the outer body of the machine; In general, let me know exactly what materials you used for all the cleaning? And what colors did you use for the spots you painted?
