On iPlayer, the subtitles credit the original songs as the subtitles were done from the original airing.

I hate how it's been changed... I was only watching it yesterday thinking this isn't the same music for the birthday card, then the radio too! Just keep it original 😢

I have the edited version on VHS as part of the Wallace & Gromit boxset from the late 1990s and I later got the original version on DVD as part of Wallace & Gromit in their first 3 adventures (which was released in 1999).

My Grandmother recorded this on VHS in 93 and My Family grew up with the OG Songs!!!

I think the reason they change the card song was because there was a copyright dispute over happy birthday in several parts of the world

Probably not, since two of the three songs that were used during the scene where Gromit struggles to sleep are still under copyright. It won't be at least until 2049, in the U.S. anyway, when these songs enter the public domain (unless the Copyright Law gets extended) and then they can start using the original 1993 audio again.

I was watching The Wrong Trousers on Amazon Prime just now. I had to replay the birthday card song a few times and then do research thinking I imagined the card playing Happy Birthday because I was that confused.

Hah, I completely missed Wallace humming the same song in the original version. The implication he was kept awake by the music too....and was having a blast. XD
