Hi Jill, I am planning to make little whish brooms with my kindergartners. I have a spindle. I want the whisk broom to have a tiny handle with sticks we find in nature. We are a forest school. I am having a hard time finding broom nails. Is there another name they go by? Do I need the vice and all that? I just want to make the simpliest broom and am looking for advice?

Watch this video - do the one with the stick. Let them embellish with stuff they've thrifted. studio.kzbin.infoHgQqZbrKkgc/edit

....maybe put the blade back in the utility knife before using it as a handle 🤔😱

We need to make you one of these where one end is a drill bit and the other end stays braced on the table with little rubber feet ;)

Did you use a masonry line? I would think that is too stretchy. No?
@jchoatebasketry29 күн бұрын
I'm not sure what masonry line is - so I can't comment on that.

This is the first time I've ever commented on a video on KZbin, and it's to say THANK YOU! For taking the time to teach a AWESOME skill and craft. I have been wanting to learn broom-making for so long. I took notes and everything! I feel confident about it after eating your videos! Thank you, thank you!!!

I want one for myself for work. 😁👍🏻 (I'm a Historical Interpreter and one way of carrying around our personal effects is via basket. This is a basket. 🤣)

Hallo Jill.... Love your broom videos. Syster and I got together and made the Hawk's Wing broom.... we used a mix of last years broom and this years broom. A week later, the broom has shrunk and the strings are a bit loose. We soaked the broom hurl/nurl before use.... is shrinkage normal? Is it because we used some of this years broom? Did I over soak them?

How is the final round stitching finished ? You've left it unfinished in the video and hence my query.

Wow, that's a pretty pattern, not something I'm quite ready for, as a beginner, but I'm looking forward to doing a pattern like this some day. :D Thanks for sharing it and the others that go with it. I look forward to watching them. :D God bless you and your wonderful family. Have an awesome day! :D

I love these videos. I got the kit for my birthday and even though this is my first woven basket, I’m flying right through it because your videos are so helpful!!! I want to ask about the colored strap on the one on the right in the video. Is it just ribbon sewn on the webbing? If so how wide is the ribbon and where did you get it? I love this look!
@jchoatebasketry9 ай бұрын
So glad that the videos are helping you. Just a heads up this set of videos and most of the others are being re-located to our Patreon site. Ribbon and fabrics change quickly and this one is no longer available I"m afraid as that photo is quite old. I no longer offer the ribbon on harness as I got tired of the color scheme they were offering and it's quite expensive to purchase.

Jill, what type of twine are you using? I have only been able to find a black #18 bank line tarred twine that’s a 250 lb test. that red is nice, wondering where I would find that or any other colors that are that strong.
