I would bolt those LED strips down, the double sided tape could lose its sticking power, and then your LED array turns into a fire hazard. Also I would get the cheapest thermal paste, and use that to connect the LED strips to the aluminum frame thermally. For the fixation of the LED strips i would use small nuts and bolts. Preferably nuts with the silicone in them so they wont come loose. Further, I like your build style. Greetings, Jeff

Total cost?
@Tyrone-Ward
@Tyrone-Ward Жыл бұрын
The LED strip are about $20 USD each (5 strips - $100 total). The driver is about $100 USD. No idea how much the aluminum and other bits and bobs cost. I'd estimate the entire build is about $300 USD. That's not terrible for a CUSTOM lighting solution, but an off-the-shelf light could be cheaper.
@ollaitsrealgood
@ollaitsrealgood 7 ай бұрын
@@Tyrone-Ward It depends on the size of the canopy you're lighting. If you put it in a 4x4 and the lights work out to similar par ratings as something like an EVO 6, you just saved everyone like 200$. I don't think this is more expensive than the current offerings. What size is this going in?

I am forced to do this after losing everything this year due to 85f temps for the solution/water in the Kratky, and the DWC method. Root rot got me, but with this the roots don't sit in the water/solution. My only fear is that the pathogen that is root rot comes with plant matter which the bottom container will have even with 100% healthy roots. If the pathogen is in that bottom container it will end up on the roots 100% sure negating any positive with this system.

what size strips ( 50 w 560mm or 105 w 1200mm ) 7 x 50w = 350w , not sure a 320h 48b will run them full blast but the next mean well 480h - 48b will and you'd have a plenty of power left in the driver so you could had more strips and dim them down so they dont run as hot

Two of these would not work correctly in a 4x4 tent, it also would not cost double the price as it would run of one bigger driver which costs less than 2 300w ones and you would use 4ft led strips the cost would be more around £400 ish 👍 thanks for the view tho….

Thanks for the video. I can't believe that some grow lights cost 500 or even thousands of €.. So much money for something you can do on your own. For that money you can buy washing and drying machines, refrigerators and freezers, TV's, computers and laptops, cellphones, used cars.. So much more could be added to that list.. And none of those things can usually be made at home.. I'm tired of this market, everything made for growing is triple the price.. It's just a light ffs! What's even worse, you buy a cheap grow light like Mars Hydro and it stops working within few months of use, so you have to spend more if you want a reliable light...

Hi. First of all great build and definitely something I will try to replicate. But ... I have a question about something that's not my forte ... electricity. You got 5 strips and when I looked them up they are 1.1A and 46V or around 51W. How can this 320W driver go to the max when in theory you should be around 255W (51x5)? I know it's a dumb question since it's working perfectly but please can you explain what I'm missing? Thank you

Its under driven like most LED fixtures to increase efficiency and increase lifespan of unit. More energy used to drive the unit to its max chips will burn out quicker and increase heat from more energy.

I think it´s amazing that people are starting to build these DIY lights at home. I noticed that the cost of build is not much cheaper then buying ready lights, and still DIY lights have great benefits. Even the fun of building your own is priceless, and if something break you can always repair them.
