So were Dodge, Plymouth, and Desoto. But those cars were NOT called by the corporate name. They were known by their individual DIVISION names. From 1955 on, so was Imperial . it CEASED being a MODEL of Chrysler, and became a SEPARATE MAKE unto itself . Starting in 1955, The Chrysler Corporation had FIVE DISTINCT MAKES and DIVISIONS: PLYMOUTH, DODGE, DeSOTO , CHRYSLER...and the now separate IMPERIAL. Want PROOF ? "Imperial", was a separate division of the Chrysler Corporation...like "Lincoln" is a division of Ford Motor Company. This is only a "Chrysler Imperial", if you call a Lincoln, a "Ford Lincoln". You don't.
@williamg25527 жыл бұрын
Anyone who really knows the history of this car would NOT call it a "Chrysler" Imperial. Obviously, they don't know what the Chrysler Corporation did in 1955. That was the year that the Imperial was spun off from the Chrysler Division, and became it's OWN MAKE and DIVISION.

For all of the guys who insist that the IMPERIAL is , was, and will always be, a "Chrysler", explain THIS: On the VIN numbers all "Chryslers" (Newport, New Yorker, 300, etc) carried a "C" code. The IMPERIAL didn't . Under IT'S "Make" code,all IMPERIALS (Custom, Crown, LeBaron, Ghia Limousine) there was a "Y"code. TWO DIFFERENT MAKES. If The IMPERIAL was a "Chrysler", wouldn't it ALSO have had a "C" code ?Also consider THIS: (from Wikipedia) : "For the 1955 model year, the Imperial was launched and registered as a separate marque (make), apart from the Chrysler brand. It was a product of the new Imperial Division of Chrysler Corporation, meaning that the Imperial would be a make and division unto itself, and not bear the Chrysler name. Chrysler Corporation sent notices to all state licensing agencies in the then-48 states that the Imperial, beginning in 1955, would no longer be registered as a Chrysler, but as a separate make ." Why would the Chrysler Corporation go to such great lengths to separate The IMPERIAL into it's own MAKE and DIVISION, even to the point of contacting all Motor Vehicle Departments (DMV's) in the then-48 states to inform them of this change, if, as you guys claimed, IT NEVER HAPPENED ?Think about it.
@SRamos-rf6eb7 жыл бұрын
williamg2552 : Never the less, would not Chrysler be considered the PARENT, company of the mighty Imperial? General Motors, is considered ( I am sure ), the Parent company, of Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Buick, and of course, the G.M.C. trucks......( Gee, they used to make, some handsome, HEAVY DUTY, COMMERCIAL TRUCKS. WHAT IN THE WORLD HAPPENED? ) Any way, that is, MY understanding of what was considered, Parent Companies 😕 ! WELL, ........"YOU" all say, "Potato", and some of us, say "Potato",...... Let's just leave it be, and let us enjoy the BEAUTY, of these "OLD TIMERS"..... O.K.?😉
@williamg25527 жыл бұрын
If we were to proceed from that logic, then we should be calling all General Motors cars "GM Chevrolet", "GM Cadillac" ,"GM Buick" etc. Or, Ford Motor Co cars as "Ford Lincoln", "Ford Mercury", "Ford Edsel", etc. But these cars don't go by their corporate names...only their individual division names. So should Imperial. When was the last time you heard other cars in the Mopar lineup referred to as "Chrysler Plymouth" "Chrysler Dodge" , or "Chrysler DeSoto" ? Have you ? I haven't either.
@stevenhorton55007 жыл бұрын
Imperial was solely Imperial from 1955 to 1975. From 1926 to 1954; from 1981 to 1983; from 1990 to 1993 they were indeed Chrysler Imperials
@stevenhorton55007 жыл бұрын
+And this beautiful car is correctly referred to as a "limousine"
@williamg25527 жыл бұрын
Steven Horton-Partially right, Steven. The 81-83's were still just Imperials, with separate "IMPERIAL" dealership signs , and no "Chrysler" name on the car or in it's marketing. Here's an ad from that period: Lee Iacocca tells Frank Sinatra " I've got a bunch of IMPERIAL DEALERS ready for them, Frank". (Not "Chrysler" or "Chrysler Imperial" Dealers). In fact, the name "Chrysler" appears nowhere in the ad. i.ebayimg.com/images/i/121793963512-0-1/s-l1000.jpg But , you're totally CORRECT about the 1990-93 Imperials.It was thought that re-adding the "Chrysler" nameplate would increase sales. But, sadly , it DIDN'T ...So they might just as well have kept the Imperial SEPARATE, for all the good it did. That K-Car-based , Front-drive car wasn't worthy of the IMPERIAL name anyway.

@Andreeskfz7 жыл бұрын
