Well... In Chronicles (and most versions that aren't the PCE one) you fight monsters in Darm Tower because they are there. Most of the time you can't skip them, and you still have to play well because they can seriously hurt you. I speak for myself, but I think what's fun about Ys I and II is the gameplay, and I don't consider the fact that you can mindlessly grind to trivialize the challenge in the PCE version to be a positive.
@NeoKakarot4 күн бұрын
Different strokes for different folks that's for sure. In RPG's I highly value the progression in power as you fight enemies, it's at least half the enjoyment for me. The gameplay in Ys 1 while revolutionary for it's time just isn't enough for me personally if levelling up is taken out of the equation. Your point about grinding to trivialize the challenge I'm assuming is in reference to Dark Fact? If so, certainly beating Dark Fact in under 10 seconds is not optimal BUT in comparison to the nonsense of that fight in Chronicles I'll take it gladly. A happy balance of the two would be the greatest outcome but it is what it is. Thanks for watching and commenting, I appreciate seeing different opinions and having discussions like this.

Oh man, you gave me massive PTSD flashbacks bringing up Sticker Star. TTYD is one of my faves too and Paper Mario 64 was essentially the game that got me into RPGs. I didn't hate Super Paper Mario by any means, I actually liked and thought the more action oriented/metroidvania style was really cool, but I also yearned for a TRUE follow up to TTYD and was excited for Sticker Star. This was during a time when I didn't even have internet so the only way I could find things out about a game was through magazines like Game Informer or from friends. I bought Sticker Star blindly because I loved Paper Mario and man, that was a game so horrible and disappointing that it made 18 year-old me sell their 3Ds. The sticker system is one of the worst gaming design choices of all time. Like you said, every single attack functions as a one-time use sticker item. You can't even perform the simplest jump or hammer attack without a sticker for it and since every item is one-time use there's absolutely no incentive to battle any enemies you aren't forced to fight. There's no experience/level system and you are legit penalized for fighting when you don't have to since it just wastes stickers. Even the items known as 'things' are one-time use only, these are objects you find on the overworld that you turn into stickers and they're powerful attacks that take up a lot of space in your sticker album, but since it's a one-time use the only way to get it again is to backtrack all the way to where you originally found the item, so it's just a waste of time and unnecessary padding. Every single boss in this game has an absurd amount of HP unless you find the proper object in the overworld and turn it into a sticker that you use on the boss and then the boss just becomes a complete pushover. So basically you have two options for difficulty 'unwinnable' or ' laughably easy' The whole game is just a joke and one of the biggest tanks in quality from what was once an amazing and consistent franchise. We can only hope that with the recent release of TTYD remaster that Nintendo finally realizes there's a market for the real successor the fans have wanted all these years and they'll let Intelligent Systems make it now.

AHHHHH another sticker star victim oh no! That's terrible that it made you sell your 3DS, but can't say I blame ya for that at the time. Sticker star is truly one of the most disappointing games out there. I can only hope the TTYD remake sold enough copies to get Nintendo on track to finally making a true sequel for it.

@@NeoKakarot I'm not sure i can really give you hints on this but since im in the psychology sphere i'd like to try and share something :) For the speed you speak, i'd probably recomend finding someone that speaks a bit like you would like to speak yourself and try to understand what is what you like about their speed, speech, tempo and all that. I have jordan peterson in mind as we speak, so what i like about his voice is that he's very confident, its strong, the voice itself seems to stand on its own and i could hear just his voice and know sort of the mood his into. then i could try to replicate a bit of it, just repeat maybe what the person says at the speed he says it and even register yourself doing it and see what you like and dislike. I used to record myself and check on what was getting on my nerves. I had a "boring" voice. but whats boring? I felt like i wasnt involved as much as i felt in my head so i had to use a different speech. At some point i was so annoyed that i practiced explaining what was a TV to a very old person that didnt know what was a TV and surprisingly enough it got me more confident. "A television...? ok lets see, its like a squared box projecting light as form shapes." now i would practice this and make it more and more precise to then understand that the problem was more about how "present" or not present i was actually lol and it slowly shifted even my way of thinking really. This was a neat experience! dont ever think you're crazy to speak alone or whatever. Who knows, maybe im just a bot xD Keep up the good work man :) youre great
@NeoKakarot12 күн бұрын
Haha after thinking about it yesterday I think I finally know why I speak slower in videos. I subconsciously change my voice a bit when I'm recording and I almost always only do 1 take for each section of the scripts. The combination of reading the script while I'm recording and the different voice result in me speaking slower. In the future I should speak the section of the scripts a few times before I record so that it comes out faster and simply talk in my normal voice. But if that somehow doesn't work then ya I'll have to try those suggestions.

I really hope the re-releases does NOT become a thing for Falcom. It's a scummy practice already made by other companies (For example, ATLUS as you pointed out in the video) and it'd be devastating if Falcom were to follow their steps. Granted, the re-releases are far more accepted in the Japanese industry. However, we often in the west tend to get the "better" version when the game gets localized. It was barely a few months ago that YS X was released here and these news are quite literally a punch in the face. Now, there's the possibility that Proud Nordics is a hell of a expansion (which i doubt, due to the content explanation) that could be considered a separated Game (Digimon Redigitize: Decode as an example. Which has 3x the amount of content compared to the original). Anyway, why couldn't be just a dlc?. That aside. The Sky remake looks GORGEOUS, and the Best thing about the announcement is that it won't be a Nintendo exclusive (imagine if nintendo was the publisher. Sheesh). Talking about publishers, it seems that pairing with gungho entertainment wasn't just an out of nowhere decision since apparently a lot of workers from XSEED (including the previous president) moved to gungho. So that'd explain why Falcom didn't just straight up paired up with either XSEED or NISA
@NeoKakarot19 күн бұрын
Yaaaaaa I'm really hoping the re-release doesn't become a common practice by Falcom. I'd rather Falcom just not even go for the 2 games a year strategy if it means re-releases as 1 game a year is already psychotic enough as it is lol. As for Gungho yeah they might be the new XSEED for Falcom which is neat. If the sky remake was nintendo only, Falcom fans would riot haha.

It's mostly youtubers who have their panties in a bunch over Ys 10 Proud Nordics. Here's what the situation reminds me of: I used to be an avid reader of Marvel and DC Superhero comics. Every year, those two companies did their annual event crossover. Titles like House of M, Infinite Crisis, Avengers versus X-men and many others. Fans HATE event comics, and a lot of comic book forums are taken up with fans complaining about event comics to high heaven. It wasn't just the main book either, during events, pretty much every comic across the company would stop the story it was telling and do tie-in stories. Sometimes, those tie-ins were key pieces of the story, and other times, it was window dressing. People complained about this to high heaven, and there was a ton of anger over it. Why did publishers do it if it pissed off fans? Because event comics sold a metric crap-ton of comic books. For every fan on the internet who complained about it, there were 25 other fans who were lined up with their wallets open ready to buy in. Some of these events were really very well done, others were garbage. If you don't like the business practices a company is using, don't support it by buying the product you find questionable. We live in the Golden Age of JRPGs, The intense competition should mean that if you object to a certain game's monetization policy, there should be a dozen games that don't have that wart that you move up your list of games to play. Don't hope a policy changes, if you don't like it, don't buy it. If it doesn't sell, companies will stop doing it. If most customers are stupid and fall easy prey to abusive monetization practices, well, that is kind of a bummer. As far as I know, comic book fans never did catch on and stop buying those event comic books that certain fans complained so loudly about.

The last song on disc 3 of the included Soundtrack collection is the "the typing of Ys" version of the song "Theme of Adol -2001 Version-" which in the CD database is credited to the "Zwei!!" OST. Also, I think it's funny for the second Zwei game to be called Zwei 2 because Zwei is the german word for the number 2, meaning it would just be 2 2. Like you said in your Ys X video, Adol + Dogi has gotta happen and the potential of teaming up with Geis or even Credo would be sick, tons of potential there! My optimal hope for the future of Ys is that the Ys 5 remake is made in the style of the Napishtim system games as a nice spacer in-between the Cross Action games and that the new Ys games are after 9 in the timeline.

You killed me with the "elephant in the room" 🤣 Yes Singa is producing tracks at industrial level, and a lot of bland tracks, still he doesn't deserve all that blind negativity all the time, it's just bashing at this point, compared to some other composer, it's really not that a different ratio. When Jindo produces a turd, fans are like "omg peak" and when Singa produces some actually good songs, it's "I like music"... I don't think there's too much hate on the Ys side, introducing the party system especially after VIII, from time to time you see a salty one telling you the bump system was better blabla but they're a minority. For Kiseki tho... negativity sparked by the CS arc, the source of it all is that it doesn't respect the player's time, what until this point most Ys and Eiyuu densetsu games did and I can only agree with that, CS arc can be contained in 2 games at worst. Falcom fans are a strange beast for sure! If Falcom would become Square Enix overnight, they would riot and burn the company to ashes 😆
@NeoKakarot2 ай бұрын
Haha nice, For Singa ratio being not that different compared to other composers I'm gonna respectfully disagree with you here. As for the "bashing" of Singa while some of it is overblown like what you are saying here, there is definitely more to it than that. After this video I learned quite a bit more about Falcom as a company and made a video called "The Darkness of Falcom Music" if you are curious. As for Ys yeah the negativity is in the minority now a days, I think that's mostly due to Trails just being so much more popular in the Falcom community. An Ys "hate" post would get a fraction of the attention in comparison haha. For Trails the pacing has always been slow, but yaaaa it was definitely abysmal in the CS arc. As someone who was a massive Square-Enix fan boy in the past I definitely wouldn't want Falcom becoming like them haha. The Final Fantasy series after X with the exception of remakes and XIV has been WAY more shaky and questionable than Trails xD. Final Fantasy XVI did give me some hope for the series though so we shall see.

Man do i love YS Seven. it was my introduction to the series. At first i thought it was just going to be another standard rpg for the PSP and i couldn`t be more wrong about that. The gameplay is simply mechanically satisfying, the guard system while broken, it was really fun to use, specially in higher difficulties. It wasn`t only my first YS game, but my first FALCOM game, so team JDK slapped me with that gorgeous OST they are renowned for right in the face. Even now, i think the story is still fairly good even when compared with the other entries in the series, it really sends the message of "Those before you failed miserably, what makes you think you`ll be any different?", and as someone who`s at the time didn`t knew about Adol`s world-saving record, that message went deeper. so yeah, A great game that i always come back from time to time.

For a PSP game oh yeah the gameplay of Seven was wild even without the PSP consideration the gameplay is great. Flash guarding while wonky is still lots of fun especially on nightmare absolutely. The OST is just fantastic, the composer line up for that era of Falcom was incredible and also Seven had the benefit of quite a few leftover Takeshita tracks as well. Oh man I guess if Seven is your first Ys or if you are several games in already, the story of Seven and what Adol accomplishes despite the odds is gonna hit no matter what eh? That's awesome that Seven was your first Falcom game, I'm a bit jealous here haha. You forgot the best thing about VII. Dogi being an actual PLAYABLE character! Also Tia. Best girl Tia. God her story was so tragic. Ys VII is very rough around its edges, but it added so many important things to the franchise like crafting and the party system and for its time it had the best story in the series (I think VIII and IX surpassed it, but VII is my 3rd fave after those ones, still need to play X though) All the core Ys elements are there and this title represents everything I love about the series with the addition of extra strong storytelling and world-building on-top of the fun exploration, addictive combat and a kick-ass soundtrack I always expect. The party AI is a bit rough at times, but since it was the first game to implement that system I can't blame Falcom for it being rough around the edges. All in all, I have very little bad to say about Ys VII and I'm always happy to see other people who appreciate it.
@NeoKakarot2 ай бұрын
Shiet your right about Dogi I should have mentioned that haha. Ya man Tia with that ending.... always hits. I'm so glad Falcom took all the risks they did at the time with Seven even though it was rough around the edges. Seven has been the foundational rock for all the modern success of Ys, even X while having a new combat system still has the Seven roots in play. It's crazy how much overlap you and me have with tastes, One Piece, Trails, Ys, Final Fantasy etc love to see it man.

TITS FC and SC are my favorite games of all time, and not because of nostalgia, because I played them on 2022 after having played games like The Witcher 3 and P5 Royal on my PS4. That's right, these games whipe the floor with every game I've played in my life. I just hope Falcom doesn't go the Square Enix FFVII route and destroy one of their most precious games.

We will have to see. Based on screenshots it was the same scripts as the originals so I don't think there will be any radical story changes at least.

The other thing that the sales negativity completely misses on is that the Japanese video games market has shrunk *as a whole*, since those earlier games they try to compare to. Sales are down across the the whole industry since the days of Azure. That's also not considering that Faclom's games have stopped launching on handheld (which is very important to JP), they have still been in a very Sony-first approach (and Sony is continually becoming more unpopular in Japan), AND the fact that the Japanese game sales chart only includes physical sales and no digital. Japan hasn't embraced digital sales quite to the extent the West has, but it's still a very significant factor. So when people point to launch week sales vs the distant past, they are either ignorant of multiple layers of nuance or intentionally leaving them out of the equation to push a narrative. Holding at roughly 50k sales on launch week over the past few years of sequels is pretty respectable. As someone who has looked at the JP sales charts pretty regularly over the years, I would say that anything that charts 60k+ these days is a solid hit, and it's rather rare for anything to break into even the 90-100k range. Now, where I would start to worry about doom and gloom is if Falcom puts up Disgaea 7 launch numbers of 9k units sold. NIS, I actually am concerned about. Falcom is doing just fine.

I’m still quite new to the Ys series and pretty much Falcom in general. Played Ys VIII, loved it. And Ys Origins which I also liked. Unfortunately I had to skip Ys IX, definitely regret it….because finding a cheap physical copy of the game at any of my local retailers I visit….is nearly impossible now… *sigh* But anyways, I’m currently still playing Ys X. Absolutely enjoying the combat system, not sure if Falcom will ever retread this combat system because yeah like you said here….it could lose its flare when the system continues within the next 2 or so games. On another note….it’s unfortunate that Falcom seems to have abandoned those Animated introductions from previous Ys games…particularly since the last Ys game I played was VIII and that had an animated introduction, I assume IX doesn’t have an anime introduction at the start….I’m not sure again, didn’t play it lol. Enough of my rambling though….I’m gonna definitely pre-order “Ys Memoire: The Oath of Felghana Refined Edition” for next year.
@NeoKakarot2 ай бұрын
Oh man physical copies of relatively unknown games is definitely rough after release. We shall see what Falcom does in the future haha. And yeah.... the lack of a proper intro in IX and X is definitely a bit of a let down. If you liked Origin you are sure to enjoy Oath in Felghana, I'm really glad that game got a remaster and is coming to the west.
@maroXUprising2 ай бұрын
@@NeoKakarot Yeah. it really is quite rough, I’m currently trying to find a physical copy of Tokyo Xanadu eX+ for the Nintendo Switch as well….Heard good things about that game from Falcom enthusiasts. Hopefully I can find one before it becomes even more difficult….it’s tough being a JRPG fan. Too many great games getting either remastered, released or announced. 2025 is already going to have a good start….there’s Tales of Graces F remaster, Xenoblade Chronicles X definitive edition, Trails to Daybreak 2….and so on. Oh yeah, i know I’m gonna like The Oath of Felghana.

Tokyo Xanadu is like Cold Steel Meets Ys, it's pretty neat also one of Falcom's best overall soundtracks imo. And yeah being a JRPG fan these days is nuts, so many games so little time xD.

I'd rather see an Ys V remake first, though. And the new system is pretty good for remaking that game, and that's long overdue (also, something something alchemy). By the way, if you ask me what should come next in terms of remakes… it's *Memories of Celcreta*, and the reason is the story being… really bad. And forgettable. And with a crappy ending (or without one, depending to who you ask). And not precisely due to the premise (be it the Ys 4 elements or some of the new additions). Well, let's be honest, the chances of them using more of the songs from Ys IV JDK special parts 1 and 2 (give them a listen if you haven't, it's really good stuff) this time also matters, but that's not the big reason.

FF X was my fave ever since I played it 20 or something years ago when I was just a kid, it was the game that got me into the series and ever since that game it hasn't even been close for Final Fantasy to surpass it. XVI did the unthinkable for me and did that. I never expected a mainline FF title would ever reach the same level as X for me let alone even surpass it, but that's what happened when I played XVI. It became an instant classic to me. The narrative alone has so much depth to it, so many themes. An emotional tale of brotherhood and family bonds, of living up to and fulfilling a legacy, of betrayal and revenge, of love and loss and most importantly of the power of freewill and the insurmountable spirit of humanity and it's all drenched in philosophical, religious and sociopolitical commentary as well. One of the most thought-provoking games I've played in a good while. The world-building was so detailed as well, Valisthea was such an immersive world for being only one game, it damn near reached the level of Trails with how much detail they put into that world and its history. Clive is an amazing protagonist and the supporting cast, even just NPC characters at your home base have so much personality and depth to their character thanks to the masterclass voice acting. Oh and those Eikon fights are no exaggeration easily some of the most epic boss fights I've ever seen in a video game. XVI def feels dated in a lot of ways thanks to the MMO quests, the GOT style dark fantasy story and world and the DMC combat with the God of War/Asura's Wrath boss fights, but the fact it's so outdated is exactly WHY I love it so much. It has the souls of a long lost hidden gem from the PS3 era, but with the production values of a modern day AAA game, so it's the best of both worlds IMO. XVI is the new standard for the series to me. Here's hoping XVII will be even half as good and we don't have to wait another 20 years for an amazing FF mainline game again.
@NeoKakarot2 ай бұрын
Oh man I'm jealous that the game resonated with you that strongly. It's always such an awesome feeling when a game just perfectly clicks for ya. That said I still really loved XVI overall and it is absolutely the best mainline FF game since X. I would be so sad if it takes Square 20 years again to make a great single player FF.

The kai hate at the start of its release was just ridiculous to me as someone that beat the game recently and considers it the best Kiseki game in the series currently. People on reddit and hating didn't play it themselves and if they did they didn't pay attention to the story cause ain't no way its bad or what the haters thought. kai was peak fiction and we can only go up from kai and we are truly approaching the end of the series now. As for Ys i think 9 is the best modern title but i don't play Ys for stories i play it for exploration and combat. Not a large fan of X and looking forward to Memoire more. Also Coldsteel 4 haters can leave the fanbase if you ask me. Coldsteel 4 is the best coldsteel game and its integral to Trails now because of reveals in Kai. Also agree that falcom is on the rise.
@NeoKakarot2 ай бұрын
Oh man I can't wait to play Kai (just need it on PC and fan translation patch hopefully). Yeah for Ys it's all about the gameplay and music, if an Ys game has a good story it's just a nice little bonus to the package. I agree that CS4 is the best cold steel game and if you say that the plot in that game is integral to the series now because of Kai that can only mean Nayuta was probably also boosted haha noice. And ya Falcom is only going to get bigger outside of Japan in the near future.
