You didn't mention the important fact that the company we have today is not SNK but rather is Playmore, which acquired the rights of the dead SNK properties hence the company is Playmore renaming itself as SNK Playmore in 2003 later to call itself just SNK which is in the end be it *Playmore* disguised as "SNK"

The only NES peripheral that was any good was the light gun, i was a bit older when the nintendo came out my first console was an atari 2600, didn't realize how good video games could even be until i played the original legend of zelda, prior to that i didnt really enjoy video games, platformers werent really fun and i would get bored of them super quick, zelda on the other hand i would pop it on and next thing i knew hours had passed, and the original final fantasy games were amazing too.

Biggest tragedy are the number of canceled titles. So many developers were trying to co-develop their titles to work with the add-on, but had to back-track to remove support and re-code the existing game or cancel it entirely. Earthbound 64 was the biggest lost, as it was hyped for years on Nintendo Power and other publications throughout the N64's lifecycle.

Very harsh and unfair review. Graphics are fine for the time - you suould have noted you dont like the colour scheme rather than saying colours mean bad graphics. I think the colour choices are fine. Complaining about the lack of a jump shows you missed the point of what type of game it is - its a puzzle platformer not an action platformer. You were playing really badly in the video too. Thumbs down for this one.

Lynx is such a great system. Severely underrated but it has incredible power and is capable of a lot that home consoles were not. I thought Lynx was connected to former Sinclair engineers or was that just the home systems? Lynx has a lot of great games. I strongly recommend grabbing the library and Retroarch and playing through what it has to offer. Battlezone is very fun. It's just amazing knowing when the system launched when you play the titles it has.

Pacman platformer is good. Ninja Gaiden is too hard. I enjoyed Scrapyard Dog too. A lot of the games that were supposed to be big name ones were just too hard - even ones I have really enjoyed I would have hated without save states.
@arostwocents2 ай бұрын
You've got some very impressive Lynx homebrew and a very active scene. Some of the recent games and unreleased protos are amazing, with the system even capable of a basic FPS. The video should really have included the resurrection via homebrew and shown footage of recent games as you talked about it. Very nice basic video with a lot of room for improvement. I'll keep an eye out for your channel in future.

Wonder if this game partly inspired Wreck It Ralph? Heard it was based on Donkey Kong but this game seems a closer fit
@ProfessorRetro19762 ай бұрын
I always wondered that too
@arostwocents2 ай бұрын
Doesn't seem anything like Wreck it Ralph to me. WIR is a single screen platformer where you work up towards a large enemy as in DK. You don't break anything. You can play Fix it Felix on many retro systems - it was one of the biggest arcade games of the 80s. That's the game the movie is based on and FIF was a DK style game - if you go back to the 80s there was dozens of DK alikes and FIF was certainly one of them (and the most successful too, seeing ports to GB, NES, c64, intellivision, 2600, Mega Drive etc etc)
@arostwocents2 ай бұрын
Fix it Felix is an action platformer like DK and Wreckin' Crew is a puzzle game. The only similarity is the use of the word Wreck in the title of this and the movie. I don't think you can say they are linked just from that. Go and play Fix It Felix and DK one after another and you will clearly see DK is a clone of Fix It Felix.
@arostwocents2 ай бұрын
You play the bad guy in Wrecking Crew (the "enemies" are building homes for people, you are breaking them down) - in Fix it Felix you play the good guy, working to repair the damage caused by Ralph. The damage being what inspired Nintendo to make DK about working to repair the damage caused by DK (a kidnapped princess) 👑

In a recent comment, Alvarado straight up admitted that many of the games that were promised to launch with the system. four years ago, are nowhere near finished. The kicker is that he also admits that they do not have the people or the money to finish them. So whatever isn't already mostly ready to compile, is never coming out.

I attended an Amico event in Irvine CA a few years ago. There were at least 4 consoles there, each hooked to a screen with a game running which we were encouraged to play. The games seemed fine albeit beta versions that were still being tweaked. However - there was no "Amico OS" being shown so whatever they had developed at that point must not have been suitable for public consumption. The consoles were cool looking - exactly as pictured. The controllers were more bulky than I expected (and not in a bad way) but seemed to work well. There were Amico staff including programmers on hand to talk with, and they were getting a lot of photos and testimonials for future marketing. It was a positive experience. Other people I encountered there were Intellivision enthusiasts and were psyched. I left that event with high hopes. Too bad this project hit so many issues.
