If I try to install that size decoder in that spot it always hangs up the front truck.
@JackOnTracks
@JackOnTracks 3 ай бұрын
I fixed that issue by making a minor adjustment to the truck pick-up wires. I have two more SW7s that need decoders installed; one will be equipped with sound. I plan to construct brackets from Styrene for mounting the decoders and will likely upgrade the mounting in this one too. For the moment, however, it's operating on a local.

Still here, following your progress as you complete the build on this very interesting building. On my new layout I plan on running a 12 volt buss wire along with a ground wire through the center of the layout. I've got several reels of 12 volt LED strip lighting I've been using to illuminate my coaches (passenger cars). They can be cut apart at every 3rd LED and already have the current limiting (ballast) resistors on each section of the LED's. I plan to use about 3 LED's per building and running wires as you would run drops to feed the tracks but instead use the drops to light the buildings. Cheers from eastern TN

I make my own rust powder out of 0000 steel wool & vinegar. I put about 2 or 3 rolls of 0000 steel wool in a quart jar and fill it up with vinegar & put it in the kitchen window for about a month. After most of the steel wool has dissolved and formed rust, I pour the mixture out into my stainless steel 11X14 photo processing pan (a flat baking dish would also work) and wait a couple of weeks for it to completely dry. I then use a single edged razor blade and pulverize it into a powder and store it in little snuff tins. Then just use it as any other type of weathering powder. I sometimes use my A-proxo knife to gouge the plastic and fill it with the rust powder mixed with some Elmer's glue (PVA). On the little gas tank on the Walthers chicken coops and farm buildings I painted it white and the stand a light brown. I then dabbed the rust on the bottom of the gas tank and it came out very nicely weathered with some rust bleeding through. Cheers from eastern TN

I just finished a Walthers Cornerstone chicken coops and farm buildings & they came out really nice. I hand painted every detail after installation. I think on my next build I will do like you did and airbrush the windows before installing as they can be painted more precisely with an airbrush than trying to hand paint everything. I see you switched from the built in applicator to a paint brush to glue parts. Think I'll start doing that too. Looks to be a lot easier using a small paint brush. Cheers - TN

I've got a big ole hunk of steel 6 1/2 inches by 7 1/2 by 1 3/4 inches and it is perfectly square & weight about 17 pounds. I've got some welders magnets and use them for keeping my buildings square as I build them. I just found another little piece of square steel and will use it as well. I had ordered 3 1-2-3 blocks but the stupid post office lost them just after they had arrived. Really pissed me off. Cheers from eastern TN

After much swearing & cussing I finally finished the assembly of a Tichy Train Group flatcar. I watched another modeler build one in a video & I really liked the brake detail on the underside of the chassis (which no one will ever see). I followed the directions to a tee and wished I hadn't. In a previous step I installed the stirrups and when trying to install the extra added bronze phosphor wire grab irons I broke off every stirrup. If you ever build this kit install the stirrups as the LAST step. I did make some replacement stirrups out of some staples from a desktop stapler which were the right size. I think I spent as much time chasing small parts across the floor as I did building the model, LOL! Upon completion of the build I painted each board on the deck a different shade of brown mixing my acrylic paint in a plastic communion cup as I went along. It came out very realistic. Now on to a load for my flatcar. Cheers from eastern TN

The way I do bricks is to give it the white or black mortar first and let it settle into the grooves then come back and paint the brick faces. Another way is to first paint the brick faces making sure you don't get the color into the mortar grooves then come back and use a grout (white or black, etc.) and get it into the grooves. After getting the grout into the grooves, top coat with a flat lacquer or acrylic, whatever you use. That will seal the grout into the mortar grooves. You always want to use contrasting colors for the brick faces and the mortar joints. I like red bricks with black mortar or dark brown bricks with white mortar. Just so they contrast with each other. Cheers from eastern TN
