He articulates all aspects of the history of Israel, in a most compelling and profound manner. Having been New York Times Bureau Chief in war torn Bosnia, Central Africa, The Middle East and Central America, he has insights into genocide that few others are knowledgeable of, let alone having covered these conflicts firsthand! His discussion here has enlightened us all and altered our context of and perspectives about the Zionist Project that is the State of Israel. Having listened to his viewpoints and comments about the Palestine Conflict, none of us can believe the false narrative being espoused by Israel, it’s powerful and well financed lobby machine or what the U.S. or other Western backers continue to claim about this tragic genocide. At least we have all had our eyes opened as to the unimaginable horrors being inflicted upon the civilian population of Palestine, and the numerous laws and international regulations being ignored and violated by Israel, in its prosecution of this barbaric conflict. By extension, we also now realize that the U._S. and all other Western backers are complicit in this genocide, having funded, armed and given political cover to Israel in the U.N., for over seven months , prolonging the pain, misery suffering and hardships being endured by the Palestinian civil population. Further, the U.S. and U.K. could have forced Israel to stop this nightmare at anything since October 7, and have done nothing to facilitate an end to these horrors! Rigorous, serious, scientific and moral discourse concerning the holocaust has been absent from higher education, research, journalism and museum curation- since the closure of the Buchanwald Concentration Camp’s museum, remembrance center, and research archive about 25 years ago by the Bundesrepublik government. Modern Holocaust discourse is lacks any historical context, rigorous pursuit of truth and is an insult to the people especially the Jewish people who were murdered by the Nazis. At least the Communists, the Social Democrats, the LGTBQ victims, the Serbs, the Roma and the millions of other murdered peoples murdered by the Fascists and their allies- are mostly ignored by any modern discourse concerning the holocaust. While this is outrageous- it is far less appalling than how the Jewish people murdered by the Nazis are treated. Rather than being described in details as close to truth as rigorous research allows- showing how Jewish Germans were as German as their murderers. They had higher rates of military service than Germans who identified as Catholic or Protestant- were far more likely to self identify as “German” than either self described Catholics who lived in Bavaria or Prussians who lived in East Priussia who tended to identify by staat or religious identity. (Ie “Bayerisch” oder “Katholiek” rather than “Deutsch”). In the Soviet Union the was also the case, with 5 times more Jewish Citizens self identifying as “Soviet” or “Russian” than as “Jewish”. Despite this reality- all modern Holocaust discourse does the truly horrifically reprehensible by using the Nazi Party’s absurd race laws to identify the dead with the same labels of absurd racial blood identity that their murderers used to dehumanize, disenfranchise, objectify, exploit, torture, and ultimately murder. The Zionists were a 19th century nationalism based on pseudo scientific racial theories much like its German equivalent. While the Italians base their nationalism on linguistics-the French on a shared civic identity and Britons as four to six distinct linguistic groups sharing a common history on a shared couple of islands- among the still existent European 19th century nationalisms- modern Zionism and existent German race laws remain the only “racial nationalisms” still present in the Western World- while the German example has been moderated since its absurdist pseudo scientific extreme practiced by the Nazi regime-the Nazi’s blood laws and definitions of a “Jew” is identical to the modern Israeli definition and that of any other existent holocaust studies. It’s insulting that this most anti-Semitic, racist, and bullshit empirically false definition is the only acceptable way to define Jewishness. It’s an insult to self identified communists the majority of whom were interned due to German race laws labeling them Jews- self liberating Buchenwald, or the courageous armed Zionists, Jewish Poles, and even Hasids who conducted the Warsaw uprising- Zionism exhausted any utility or progressivism it may have once possessed when it wholesale abandoned the scientific Marxist notion of multiple historical identities and oppressions- that properly identified Eastern European Jews as an oppressed people and a national group- in favor of Nazi authored racial identity. The PFLP’s one state solution now more than ever- remains the only conceivable solution- based as it is on democratic values, collectivist humanism, ant-fascism anti- clericalism, and a right to return for all Jews AND Palestinians. When George Hadab leader of the PDFLP was asked, what would he do with the Jewish family living in his family’s home were they offered a right to return and reclaim their home and property- he said, “ I imagine with two industrious loving strong Palestinian families sharing one small home - we’d soon be sharing a larger home and like both Jews and Arabs who love this beautiful land have proven over and over again- we will fight to the death to protect it, nurture it, and make it better”

It’s interesting viewing this 6 years later in 2024. Taibbi was expressing his own biased views then and didn’t seem to have a clue as to what Trump voters wanted or thought.
