Excellent design! Very interesting design of pen holder assembly. Use of compass pen holder portion is a great idea. I appreciate your efforts. I too have designed a XY plotter using slide rails for X & y axis and door bolt for pen guide assembly. It’s working fine. Still learning to configure a coordinated parameters of Steps, Speed and acceleration of stepper motors. Can you please share details of a standard rule to be followed in configuring parameters with reference to leads-screw pitch ? Thanks

why hexapods get 2 pitch hinges is because of the brachiograph (which i just learnt the name of today.) being able to make all points on a plane helps it be able walk along alot better.

Both have their place and I use both indeed in other projects. The image processing required here needs a real little computer rather than a microcontroller; the latter would be good for the „movement part“ only - agreed!

Personally, I did a "jig" like yours in 2006. My objective was to use it as a "carver" for soft materials like plastic styrene sheets. I've immediately found the very same problem you show here: the lack of precision. I tried to use different servos to reduce that "noise" (the jiggling of the pen) but never come to a decent result. Then I thought: I don't need another printer! I need a carver and used an X-Y table, which finally worked well.

Can you adjust this machine to drawing automatically by multi-colors pen
@markus9666
@markus9666 3 жыл бұрын
You could program the plotter to draw part of an image with one pen, and pause so you can mount another pen before it draws the next part of the image. You just need to tweak the code or feed it only part of the images... ;)

Quite amazing... made out of popsicle sticks and clothespins. Maybe make another with tampons, bandaids, rubber bands and a lobster claw?

You only need PWM output, son in principle yes, but you’d need to rewrite the code …

@@markus9666 I've done it, I wasn't really that hard. I did have some confusion with the placement of the motors, and the "calibration" part o the build.

Thank you for showing this video. I'm curious if you can guess how large you could make this? What do you think the largest "canvas" you could use? Assume you have an empty room and your paper is on the floor, say the room is approx 3 meters by 3 meters (about 10' by 10'). How much of that room's floor do you think you could draw on? Thank you!
@markus9666
@markus9666 3 жыл бұрын
I see where you are going ;) I think the limiting step are the servos. The strongest I know of can work 50kg/cm. This means at the end of a 1 meter arm only 250g remain usable ...
