Clare Torry was the vocalist on The Great Gig In The Sky. I have loved this song for over 50 years.

I could not hang bro. You cannot edit an iconic best selling album without offending many people’s sensiblities. I’ve been listening to this album for over 50 years. And to cut pieces out of it is like cutting the pieces out of my heart.

Hey Joe, It is no coincidence that listen is an anagram of silent. Pink Floyd has that happy knack of making one feel still after one of their albums has finished with you. 💠 Enjoy your path of discovery Brother

I love watching new youngsters listening to this album for the first time ever! I grew up listening to them, and passed it on to my son, who loves the Floyd...I was definitely fortunate to grow up in the best generation of rock-n-roll! Glad you enjoyed this, and yes, good saxophone player, yet David Gilmore is the master IMO. Check him out Live in Pompeii years later with his other band, David Gilmour.

RAM is a must hear for you. It is his most Beatle-y solo album & the production is right up there with Abbey Road ! Try to listen to the whole album at once, it needs to be heard that way. God, I envy you your journey, I'm 76 chronlogically ,but still 30 in my mind, still loving the music as if it were 1975.

Yeah this is fabulous - Dark Side of the Moon still one of the best of all time. As far as albums that are one continuous piece goes, there are two by Jethro Tull: "Thick As A Brick" (1972) and "A Passion Play" (1973). TAAB is my favorite album of all time, though Pink Floyd gives it a run for its money. TAAB was Jethro Tull leader Ian Anderson's (vocals, flute, acoustic guitar, and music) answer to critics who called Jethro Tull's previous album "Aqualung" a "concept album" which he declined. He decided to create the "mother of all concept albums", and did this "parody" of concept/prog music which also turned out to be among the top 5 prog albums of all time while making friendly fun of it! Once among the "best of all time" whether Floyd, Beatles, Stones, Jethro Tull, you can't really rank between them.

Animals is a blinding album, but it is very dark. My friend group and I discovered that listening to it too much can actually have a negative affect on mental well-being. It's too good to ignore, but you must play it once or twice and then give it a break for a while. Amazing how some lyrics can reduce your mental wellness. Just goes to show the power of words. Like bullets, words have consequences and once fired they cannot be stopped. Try The Alan Parsons Project for some more good sounds. He worked at Abbey Road Studios on DSOTM. A top top producer and a musician in his own right. You will also like Ozric Tentacles. Their catalogue is extensive. Start with Pungent Effulgent, and Strangitude. Two fine examples of their craft. Erpland, and Durassic shift are the next albums you might try. Don't ignore Led Zeppelin though. They will give you plenty of those chills that you love. You're a great host and a fine youn man. Your parents must be very proud of you Joe. Keep em coming dude. Oh, I almost forgot The Orb, Adventures In The Underworld. And last but by no means least for now, Kraftwerk and their best Album in my opinion, Electric Cafe. But check out Led Zep after watching The Wall, The Movie. All the best to you my Musical time traveller 👌

For more clarification on the sentiment of Rodgers lyrics, watch the movie. It frames the lyrics in a visual capacity. You won't regret it. I promise.

Give Led Zeppelin a go. Maybe you already have. A different vibe, slightly more raw, but they are consumate musicians, and Robert Plants voice will blow you away.

A good Pink Floyd gig to watch is Delicate Sound Of Thunder, Live At Earls Court. The Album was taken from one of those dates.

The gal singing the song with no words, story is. they thought of adding some vocals, someone in the studio said they knew of this gal, so they brought her in. She did 2 takes and left. She wasn't even sure they were going to use her material. She was surprised when the album came out and the song was on it. Years later she took Floyd to court to get song credit. They didn't tell her what to sing, and all the vocals were her's. Judge gave her song rights and credit, and is now credited with the song, and getting music fees.

You are far too young to be able to truly understand the depth & complexity of this music. However , when you reach your late 30's & 40's , you will at long last begin to understand. And every year that goes by, you will have a deeper & truer understanding. It will NEVER get old or out of fashion. I envy you your journey ! Explore Syd Barrett - after all he started the group and he was their songwriter , lead guitarist & lead singer ! He was amazing & tragic at the same time.

Can you imagine being there, surrounded by thousands of people, but above all surrounded by the 232,000 Watts of unbridled music power? Throughout the tour, newspapers raved about the "perfect quadraphonic sound system". One reporter, Michael Norman of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, was moved to write: "No rock band can match Pink Floyd when it comes to making a stadium show come off sounding as if it's being held in your living room."

Pink Floyd production will always beat the Beatles, just because of the technology developments in that era. Dark Side of The Moon is obviously an amazing album, though I think my favourite Pink Floyd album is Wish you Were Here. I also love the Beatles though, with my favourite album being Sgt. Peppers

Liked and subbed, great video Joe. For a real treat I suggest that you react to the masterpiece that is Pink Floyd Animals. Before doing ao read the wiki about the song so you understand what the pigs, dogs and sheep represent in the songs. Dogs IMHO is particularly brilliant. You don't listen to Animals, you experience it. Actually here is some info about the albulm concept: Loosely based on George Orwell's political fable Animal Farm, the album's lyrics describe various classes in society as different kinds of animals: the predatory dogs, the despotic ruthless pigs, and the "mindless and unquestioning” herd of sheep. Whereas the novella focuses on Stalinism, the album is a critique of capitalism and differs again in that the sheep eventually rise up to overpower the dogs. The album was developed from a collection of unrelated songs into a concept which, in the words of author Glenn Povey, "described the apparent social and moral decay of society, likening the human condition to that of mere animals" When you listen to Dogs, I highly suggest watching the video with lyrics. Cheers!

This album marked a turning point for Pink Floys. Before this, they were an interesting 'progressive rock' band... experimenting with stuff and evolving. After Dark Side, they became the 'concept album' band. (not that there's anything wrong with that), and evolved into Roger Waters' backup band (imo). Just remember, what you just heard would probably not exist if not for albums like Revolver. Everything influences everything else. Nothing exists in a vacuum. Appreciate and cherish both, comparing them to what had existed before. Glad you enjoyed the listen. years later, it still impresses.

There is plenty of late '60's and 70's music left to hear, neither better nor worse really, just different, creative genius. Now you know why we oldsters say that most recent music is just boring, talent-less mush. We aren't cantankerous old farts. We've just heard a lot better music. The first time I ever heard this album was through a good set of headphones, and after it was over I just sat there listening to the pop hiss at the end of the album over and over with a stupid grin on my face.

Try The Wall next. That will get you pretty deep into Floyd's most popular albums. As for the production, I think it was recorded at the Beatles' Abby Road Studio, which was built after the Beatles made some real money from their music. Pink Floyd were very early adopters of electronic synthesizers. After all, they, ELP, and King Crimson practically invented Progressive Rock. Yes, the lyrics are kind of depressing. That's why it's called the DARK Side of the Moon.
