Ok, but also Tolkien began the book as a direct sequel to the Hobbit and hadn’t formulated the full plot until around the scenes in the Prancing Pony, during which time he had also taken several months/years off

The reason the Arnor did not reform after the Witch King's defeat is that the did not have the numbers to reform. And it took the crowning of Aragon as King Elessar that Arnor was reformed as there were less threats and more of the Middle Men like from Bree, Dale, Rohan, etc were brought in to populate the lands. After the War of the Ring, early in the Fourth Age, King Elessar of the newly Reunited Kingdom rebuilt the old capital of Arnor, Annúminas and made it his northern capital. The King would often spend his time there and meet his friends when he visited.

Seeing how everything is predestined in Tolkien’s world Boromir WAS always supposed to be the one to go. Just because the Valar didn’t get the memo and sent the invite to the wrong brother at first doesn’t change that. Things would’ve gone very differently with Faramir in the Fellowship, so things would not have played out as they did and the way they did was the way it was supposed to. Boromir was always just going to be a sacrifice in The Music.

Love this comment!! Not only a great philosophy, but well said. But let me politely challenge you a bit and see what you think. There are several things that happens in the lore that Eru did not intend and were not in line with the Music, and even some things that surprised him greatly (if you accept all of Tolkien's writings). For example: * the Valar were NOT supposed to let Morgoth stay in ME. Eru was furious with Manwe when he found out. * the Valar were NOT supposed to take the Elves to Valinor. Eru said that was a terrible idea, against the elves nature to be free and explore, and against his plan * Eru did not intend Men to die. But when early men rejected Eru and swore allegiance to Morgoth, Eru made them mortal and said "I will see you soon, humans". So I for one do not personally see the world as predestined. I suspect Faramir would have been AWESOME in the Fellowship. But I am certain that if Boromir had stayed behind and led the defense of Minas Tirith they would have been close to unbeatable!!!! What do you think? Am I crazy?

The one thing that confuses me is aragon's age between both the books and movies. He's 10 years old in the hobbit book and is 87 in the lotr books but shouldn't he be 70 in the movies because there was no 17 year time jump in fellowship movie?
@thegreyhavens167
@thegreyhavens167 6 күн бұрын
Yeah - 100% true!! Never thought of it that way, but your right - the movie timeline doesn't make sense!! 😶 Ok, here is my guess. You remember at the end of the Hobbit movies Thranduil tells Leggy to go find Aragorn - that he might become a great man. It's so weird, because Aragorn is like 10 yr old at the time. Well maybe in the movie universe Aragorn was born 17 years earlier.... so he is more like 27 at the time of the Hobbit so Thranduil isn't quite so crazy? 🤔🤔🤔 (what do you think?)
@abnrmlgmr64
@abnrmlgmr64 6 күн бұрын
@@thegreyhavens167 I did some digging and from I read, Aragorn was 20 years old when he became a ranger so Thranduil was correct on describing him as a young ranger but it kind of puts a monkey wrench in the timeline Tolkien established

I have no idea how serious this is. Yes, Sam is the best character, but did the nazgul really sensed his power?
@thegreyhavens167
@thegreyhavens167 6 күн бұрын
🤣🤣 Serious?.... Well serious in the way that this is what Tolkien wrote. Here is the actual story in JRRT's words: "[On 24 September Khamul] overtakes Frodo at approaches to Woody End - probably by accident; he becomes uneasily aware of the Ring, but is hesitant and uncertain because of the bright sun. He turns into the woods and waits for night. After dark, becoming acutely aware of the Ring, [Khamûl] goes in pursuit; [Khamûl] then makes a mistake (probably because he imagines the Ringbearer as some mighty man, strong and swift). For a while he had been in great fear, thinking that by some means Gandalf had got possession of the Ring and was now the Bearer." So yep, he get's scared that a great warrior is there. For a bit he thinks it's Gandalf with the One Ring... who could then dominate him and command him. But he sensed someone super powerful. G and Aragorn were hundreds of miles away. Only ones there were Frodo, Sam, and Pip. So either A) Khamul was scared of nothing or B) he was scared of one of those 3. There you go . What do you think? (hope you liked the vids, btw)

Oh, for those wondering how Saruman intended to master the One Ring: Tolkien considered Gandalf could do it thanks to an amp from the Elven Ring of Fire. Saruman calls himself 'Saruman the Ringmaker' to Gandalf. Tolkien later wrote Saruman lacked some specific knowledge, not the power, to create his own Ring of Power. Saruman probably would have studied the Ring, to fill the last gaps in his Ring-lore. Then he would have made his own ring to amp himself, like Sauron. With that boost, he may well have wrested the One Ring from Sauron.
@thegreyhavens167
@thegreyhavens167 6 күн бұрын
Love this comment! I feel the same way. I think that's 100% Saruman's plan. If Sauron wins, S-man hopes he will eventually be able to learn enough to make his own Ring to defeat the Dark Lord. He no longer has good intentions, but he is still working to defeat Sauron.

Frodo and Gandalf are close friends, as we see in the start of the movie. When Gandalf was hanging off the bridge, Frodo didnt think clearly, and so as a reflex wanted to help him. Because it is not very realisticly possible to do that without anyone else getting hurt, Boromir decided to hold back Frodo for safety reasons for both Frodo himself and the ring. Boromir is kinda attatched to the ring, so a theory is that he held the hobbit back because of that, but many people also think that he just did that as a reflex. And no, Boromir isn't bad. In the scenes after the incident Boromir says 'Give them a moment, for pittys sake!' and by that we see that he did care about both Gandalf and everybody else, but he also felt hurt himself.
