Does increasing spring stiffness and or increased weight to the buffer help to reduce felt recoil in heavier recoiling cartridge choices like the 50 beowolf? Ive been told I should use H3 buffer.

I've had the SD model for a decade or so. The gun doesn't field strip very far, so it's more work to clean it than somethibg like an AR. The gun has always run really well. It's a fun plinker.

@Eagle621

Not dwell time…dwell time is the amount of time the gas is acting on your bolt, yes, the longer the bullet is in the barrel, the longer the gas is affecting your gas system. I know, a lot of people don’t really understand the physics…

Caleb, can you elaborate on the kinds of problems you would see with a mistuning -- for example having an inadequate spring/weight combo, or too heavy a combo? Like if you had a proper functioning carbine and you decided to add an NFA suppressor, I understand that this would effectively make the dwell time longer, but how would that affect the gas system as is? What would happen because of that? Would the recoil just be harder? Would the weapon not function at all? And how would you address it? Heavier buffer? Heavier spring? Both?
@hungryfisherman4856
@hungryfisherman4856 Жыл бұрын
Adding most suppressors (the exception being flow through style) without increasing buffer weight is going to lead to an increase in felt recoil and a highly accelerated rate of wear on the inner components of your rifle. For example on my Daniel Defense mk18 (10.3 inch barrel, carbine length gas system) will shoot great unsuppressed using a standard spring and H2 buffer, but running a suppressor I can still use the H2 but it is much nicer with an H3. Keep in mind that the type of ammo you are choosing to use is going to have an effect as well, full power 62 grain 556 creates a lot more back pressure than the less expensive steel cased 223 will. It may be worth browsing some forums and finding people using the same barrel length and gas system and see what they have success with.

Something that was missed from this video is that image of the ejection angle graph. A short stroking gun (not enough BCG speed) jams. An extremely fast moving BCG can also jam, but primarily is a negative because it creates more felt recoil and wears your parts down faster. A properly functioning AR15 will ideally eject brass at 4:00 - directly to your right and slightly behind you. If you took that rifle and put a can on it, it would likely eject brass at a 2:00 angle for example. This is the result of a fast moving BCG. This is when you’d take these springs (given you don’t have an adjustable gas setting of some kind) and use it slow down the BCG at the buffer.
@jki808
@jki808 7 ай бұрын
Also as for your last question, you could use both a spring and buffer, or just either or. Sprinco actually recommends a heavier spring and lighter buffer combo but your mileage may vary.

There is no suppressor for the SD model. The fake suppressor threads onto the muzzle and tensions the pencil thin barrel to keep it straight while shooting.

You don’t have any 308’s out there….any particular reason not to shoot that caliber? I’ve had several one shot & down kills with it and also using Hornady Match 168G rounds. Just curious….

No particular reason we did not showcase the caliber. .308 is a tried-and-trued caliber that has had its time in the spot light for many hunters. We always recommend a .308 for its precision, accuracy, and ammo type variations. However, new calibers are coming to the market with great ballistic technology that shooters of all types can benefit from!

I have a 10.5" carbine gas ar, got an H3 buffer and my ejection is right at 4 o clock so it's perfect but I've been having issues with the bolt not having enough oomph to strip the next round. Do you think a stiffer spring would help? I just ordered a Sprinco red spring, do you think I will need to adjust my buffer weight after switching to the sprinco red?

If you want an example of just how STUPID and convoluted our nation's gun laws are, look no further. Two weapons that are nearly identical except that one has a stock and the other a brace, so the one with a stock is considered a "short barreled rifle" which is HIGHLY taxed and regulated by the Feds, while the other has a brace and the Feds could care less about it. Can't help but wonder how many people have bought an AR pistol and then simply put a stock on it without informing the Feds. Not that I would ever do that, of course.........
