I need to replace the metal parts that make contact with the other female part. I purchased them used and there must have been moisture the degraded that part. The rest of the track is fine. Most of the track's contacts look dirty but cleanable. I have 10 or more that will fall apart with what is left of them.

What's the time between races? I mean, does it auto-reset or do I have to reset it manually?
@cooksprojects Жыл бұрын
Hi Apofica. Thanks for your question. The next race can autostart after a period of time or you can manually swipe a sensor to start the race countdown immediately. After a race has finished, the results are displayed on the LCD screen (and sent to a computer via a datalink with certain models). These screens display the lane that won, the race time and winning car difference for about 10seconds before changing to each car's speeds for another 10 seconds. The Race Timer then enters a countdown of 10 seconds before the next race starts with a sound and light sequence. You can pause the displays and the count sequence at any time before the race starts. This gives as much time as you need to record the information or set up the next race. When ready you then un-pause the Race Timer and the remaining data is displayed or you can skip all the data displays and begin an immediate race countdown sequence. With our datalink models all this data, (with race numbers, better accuracy and more information about the race and car speeds) can be recorded on a computer and then used for further analysis. So skipping the data display on the LCD can avoid the delays before starting the next race. The Race Timer also offers a speedometer mode when every car's speed is instantly displayed and held until the next car passes the Race Timer. Our latest models can now display the speeds on the LCD in Km/h or MPH. If you would like more information, please contact us at www.cooksprojects.com

This is amazing. I guess a camera will be needed to make sure no one jumps the start.
@cooksprojects Жыл бұрын
Hi Apofica. Depending on your track set up and how you are racing you may need a 'supervisor' to make sure there is no cheating going on! When we have our races, I can normally see the start line from the finish location and so see if anyone jumps a start. We sometimes also use the stock Hot Wheels start gate so that both cars are released at the same time. shop.mattel.com/products/hot-wheels-track-builder-unlimited-multi-lane-speed-box-glc95

Pretty much what I do but immediately after cleaning rails I spray track with Amberclens spray foam cleaner, let it soak in for a short while and wipe off. There will be no white marks.

Might be Alan. So all we now need to find is how to clean the polish off the plastic?
@derekwagner157 Жыл бұрын
Personally I would avoid anything with any type of abrasive component to it if all you are doing is just cleaning track the reason for this is that you don't want to damage the nickel plating on the rails because once those are damaged you're going to be a lot more prone to oxidation on the metal. If you want to clean the rails without damaging any of the nickel plating you would be best served to use naphtha or basically lighter fluid with cotton sometimes as they say less is more. If you are determined to remove oxidation that has already started you would likely be better served using Scotch-Brite grit pads. Just mask off either side of the metal rails so as not to damage the plastic track component. I have been cleaning and servicing slot car tracks for well over 45 years and this is my experience.
@cooksprojects Жыл бұрын
Good idea. May be it would require less elbow grease using lighter fluid? Just make sure you do this in a well ventilated room and with no naked flames nearby. Thanks for sharing.
@bradsanders6954 Жыл бұрын
I saw where a guy soaked his track in vinegar/water mix....to improve connectivity. I wonder about this.
@cooksprojects Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment Brad. It is a similar idea - using a mild acid (vinegar) to dissolve the surface impurities. However, I had to rub the track quite hard using a metal polish. So a mild acid just wouldn't cut through it and a stronger one would also damage the paint and finish on the plastic. Using vinegar and water on a lightly corroded track may work, but I suspect this would be needed before any discolouration was seen on the track. Anyone else have experience of using this technique? Comment below.

100% correct that those connections come loose, i do however suggest you lay the track on a hard flat surface which will push the rail into the cavity while you role over the retaining clip In addition.... to all viewers....When assembling tracks they should always be assembled on a flat plane and the connection must feel very firm as the opposite male pins feed into the receptacle, dismantling is to be done as carefully as possible doing your level best to not over bend the tracks it WILL LOOSEN the contacts if you bend it Thank you for posting the vid, i am sure many people have watched it and applied your advice

I’ve just received racetimer from Ian. It’s awesome !. It works fine and the special incredible point is not to see so many wires compare to other more expensive timers. My track changes a lot, and with this box, I can run races everywhere. The speed measurement is a very good point. It’s really efficient (microsecond !). Small or long downhill, shot or long track, with or without curves, no problem you can get speed of your cars and send it to the computer. I’ve now an Excel file including speed of 700 cars ! Moreover Ian follows the shipment from A to Z (in France for me). Awesome job !👍

This is a great idea, thanks Ted. Using a Dremel would make it a lot easier. It's the same principle; clean the track with some metal polish. But, for those of us without powered tools, a lot of elbow grease is the only option.

Try useing a spray can of break cleaner, spray onto micrifibre cloth and rub over rails and the track, it may work for you in the residue/tarnish is not tooo bad I have used it and it helped but defintely cleaned the plastic up, the purpose of the polish is to restore the rails to smooth electricaly conductive rails and to retard tarnishing, Autosol metal polish really does the trick

Thanks Cleveland City Die Cast Racing for your kind comments. We have certainly had fun developing it! In fact, when we first wished we could see which car had won a race, we were disappointed on the Hot Wheels products on offer. So we made our own and played with it, making numerous tweaks and changes along the way. Only after publishing it on KZbin have we discovered a large community of die cast racing fans! And even more surprising was that no one produces a product that measures race time, time difference and speed of each car in a standalone, easily positioned unit... which led us to having making a product to sell. We hope it is useful for some of the diecast racing fans.

Hi YoungTrillDK and thank you for your comment. Many people have contacted me about producing the Race Timer and I am excited to reveal that my current project is looking into making these for sale! So you may be able to buy one in the next few months. It is early days, and by necessity production numbers will be small. If you, or any one else is interested on being emailed when the product goes live, either leave your email address as a comment, or better and more securely, email me directly and let me know that you are interested in being one of the first to know when the unit is ready. Of course being a subscriber to my channel will also allow you to get notification when we have finished the new product. You can find my email address in the 'About' section of the channel. Just head over to my KZbin home page and click on the 'view email address'. Thanks for your interest.

Thank you Josef. We hope you have watched our other video on how to make the Race Timer and seen that a detailed e-book is available? We have had so much fun measuring the speeds of our cars on various tracks. We have another video under production that reviews a Hot Wheels product and uses the Speed Trap function to compare the speeds of the cars being shot out of the launcher. If you want to see this when it is released, we hope you can subscribe to our channel.
