It's so refreshing to find that n o one had any reason to talk about th4 entire Appalachian mountains" dire poverty, disease, drunkenness, drugs, death, depression, depravity, destruction of environment, ignorance, or corruption.

Saw you and your Dad and the rest of the legendary Clinch Mountain Boys at Beanblossom. A day I can never forget as Bill Monroe was doing all the introductions and played too of course. But I remember you playing and being very impressive. I have the old video-tape somewhere.

I found Floyd, Va online recently. I have never been there before. But, for some reason, I get a feeling that tells me to go there. To go "back home". It's a strange feeling, but it's nice.

if u like a local economy based on the prison-industrial complex. drug war's been good for wise county, prisoners families staying in the motels, guards salaries spent in town. sunrises look just as nice in a free society as they do anywhere

IN TRUTH…..NOT PROPAGANDA……, Though geographically beautiful, it is becoming very trashy. It’s truly spreading like a disease. If you appreciate looking at beautiful scenery outdoors, well kept farms, properties, well kept homes , communities , lawns and neighborhoods, this place may not be for you. Though pictures and videos are showing beautiful places , telling of music , people and serene country life, they are not showing you the reality of things. Backroads are being completely littered with trash and homes everywhere are becoming junky and grossly littered with trash, old cars and piles of junk. So if you cannot afford to live in a subdivision that is governed by an HOA, then be prepared to have your look at trashy neighbors . Local officials, especially in Russell County do not seem interested in enforcing clean living on the locals or addressing the litter being thrown out onto roadways. It’s sad that people are so blessed to live in such a geographically beautiful mountainous region full of beautiful lakes and streams and seem intent on seeing how fast they can destroy it’s beauty with their slack , lazy, unappreciation, for a clean , beautiful healthy environment. Also healthcare and hospitals in SouthWest Virginia and the Tri Cities is horrible. Underpaid, slow and poorly educated physicians and staff. If you’re looking for good healthcare, you will not find it here. Backroads once beautiful to enjoy are littered with locals trash as well as river banks and streams. They allow the summer grasses and weeds to hide some of it in the growing months , but the fall, winter and early spring reveal its undeniable ugly lazy truth. We need BETTER LOCAL AND STATE GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS THAT ARE ACTUALLY INTERESTED and who WILL KEEP, “ ALL”, of Virginia and Tennessee, “ TRULY AND COMPLETELY, CLEAN AND BEAUTIFUL”…..

I just want to add that my Uncle was John Boggs. I met some of my cousins and was delighted to just meet them. I am not the scum of the earth. i am a law abiding person and want to search my family tree. I knew I have some cousins, Linda Boggs, amongst many who I can't even recall right now. I am at the end of my years. I am only searching to find closure and do what I think my Mom would want. I want to find my family, my blood relatives. Is that so wrong???? It angers me that people are so close minded. Please help.

Floyd is a terrible place! DO NOT COME HERE! The grass is too green, the sky is too blue, the water is too clean, everybody has guns, very low crime rate, no homeless, and everybody gets along. What fun is that? STAY AWAY!
