Acid. 1967. This solo was bonkers because it's supposed to be. Very weird and very odd intentionally. Experimental. Do you kids know what that means? Sometimes I wonder. Anyway when you listen to this studio track, the original, it sounds killer. I absolutely love the solo. Robbie is known for his slide guitar and his hooks. Written some of the best riffs and songs in our time.

I think Robby isn't given enough props. Probably because he was understated and always played FOR the song and didn't solo his brains out like some of his contemporaries.

Great player. One of the most distinctive and creative players ever. You can hear his jazz influence too. Love the tone of the SG through the Fender amp. Newer players have nothing on Krieger.

People are very rude in this chat. Robby is getting old, He havent got the same strength and speed in his fingers or with the pick for that matter. To does who say it’s terrible, go do it better, be a massive legend who played in one of the best bands, and then tell me he is shit.

some people get caught up in technique, speed etc...I get it. they are important tools of the artist/musician....I have played Semi Professionally for 30yrs, and have come to appreciate the what the musician is saying and how it affects me ...and for me, ,Robby's playing is transcendent....still takes me on a beautiful Journey..very shamanic..the man's got SOUL in spades!!! Waiting for the Sun was the first LP I ever bought....Timeless Classic!

I liked your comment. Robbie Is one o my favs too, even if his hammer some sometimes misses and nails get bent or missed, I am chill w those occasional moments that can feed spontineity, yielding new phrasing. Its refreshing to hear an icon not regurgitate a note for note. This hits more into serendipity than exactitude. Most of the time. I’m sure he’s got the chops to imitate himself. He’s more of a jazz influenced and flamenco influenced improviser. Also I like how he uses techniques like Wes’s octaves, Trane’s motifs.

And yet they only very rarely create music with a quarter as much emotional or cultural impact as this man did when he was younger. Funny, that. Listen to his solo on Light My Fire from Alive She Cried when he wasn't +/- 80 and tell me there are endless guitarists creating such vital and creative music today. I'm sure you've done better, right, kiddo?
@Ndlanding
@Ndlanding 4 жыл бұрын
@@christopher9152 This kiddo has indeed done better, but I agree that many Doors songs were distinctive, innovative and powerful, although the melodies were often basic a la Echo & The Bunnymen or Simple mids -- keynote, one above and one below. I liked SOME of Robbie's solos (e,g, 5 to 1), but bum notes still stick out, even in the studio.

So just some information for you that might help this solo make sense LOL. It was super experimental and it's not usually what he does. It's supposed to be weird and eerie. If you listen to it on the studio track it's very cool. Really he's hitting all the odd notes on purpose. Plus the sound on this video is dog poop which does not help.
