I’d spray the plug and let it soak way longer than 30 mins maybe overnight or longer, using a torque wrench is an absolute must you don’t ever want to exceed the shear point force, the book says it’s around 35Nm but I wouldn’t want to try removal anywhere near that ! Forget WD40 it’s a water displacer not penetrating fluid, experienced mechanic told me he used 50/50 ATF fluid and brake fluid ?

Ich würde empfehlen, die Glühkerzen erst im kalten Zustand des Motors einzubauen bzw. festzuziehen. Ausbau muss bei gut warmgefahrenen Motor erfolgen. Ansosnten würde ich auch kein Fett empfehlen. Ich meine, dass egal welches (Wunder)-Fett man nimmt, es bei über 100.000 KM Laufleistung nur noch eine feste Verklebung bildet und so das Losdrehen eher erschwert.. Sollte mal eine Glühkerze gar nicht rausgehen wollen, dann die Abflussbohrung in der Glühkerzenkammer verschließen und immer wieder mit WD 40, Interflon oder sonstigen Glühkerzenlösemittel ordentlich fluten und immer wieder mal testen. Auch hier wichtig, immer nur mit dem vom Hersteller angegebenen Losdrehtmoment - ansonsten reissen die ab und dann habt ihr ein echtes Problem..

3:40 Min.: Was verhindert denn beim Reinigen der Schächte mit der Bürste, dass "Ruß und andere Verunreinigungen" in den Brennraum fallen? Bei Min. 2:31 Min. Wird noch gesagt: "Sauberkeit ist wichtig! Achten Sie auch bei den folgen Schritten darauf, dass keine Verunreinigungen in den Brennraum gelangen." Grau ist alle Theorie. Solange die Kerze noch festgeschraubt ist, ist das durch Ausblasen des Sacklochs ja möglich. Aber danach?

False. My vehicle came with nickel copper plugs from the factory. I am told that it is because they dissipate heat faster than iridium plugs. It runs great with the factory plugs and they are less expensive.

I anticipated a helpful video… not one that told us about steps like “remove the old wiper blade”. (I knew that I missed SOMETHING)! Or, “Now install the new wiper blades to match your vehicle”. Really, where was that info when I needed it? (SIGH). I’m wasting time here. Got to figure out how to “easily install” these blades (untrue information).

Empfiehlt Bosch die Verwendung von Glühkerzenfett bei der Montage um das Festbacken der Glühkerzen zu verhindern, oder ist es am sinnvollsten diese wie im Video zu sehen "trocken" einzubauen?

Hallo @Magnus5531, um die Glühkerzen zu lösen, empfehlen wir, diese vorher mit Glühkerzenlöser einzusprühen. Beim Einbau der neuen Glühkerzen empfehlen wir, auf Fett zu verzichten und diese trocken einzusetzen. Viele Grüße, Ihr Bosch Mobility-Team

A) because they have multiple different types of spark plugs that use precious metals (e.g. platinum and iridium) B) did you really just accuse one of the largest parts suppliers in the automotive industry, who works with numerous manufacturers and supplies parts for new cars at the factories, of "being a scammer" 🤣🤣🤣

My car has a V8 and factory plugs. Changed them at 145,000 miles. Put same factory plugs back in. No need for expensive plugs.

So, in effect you now make it impossible to have cabin heat until the engine is warmed to 60C. Canada thanks you for further suffering in cold. Also. What controls the shutter that blocks the impeller. Don't you dare say solenoid. Some computer or controller of some sort MUST be detecting the temperature and controlling this. Lastly. Since now we are stuck freezing to death until the engine hits 60C. When the shutter finally opens to allow the pump to flow coolant, wouldn't the sudden shock of now pulling in -40C water from the heater core and other cooling hoses not in line with the radiator(since radiator is blocked by thermostat) result in temperature shock and potential engine life shortening?

They must have had a team of rocket scientists and brain surgeons working on that. Clearly obvious. They could’ve make a spark plug that lasted longer years ago, just like they could’ve make tyres last longer, engines wear less and cars that don’t disintegrate when they have the slightest bump. But they aren’t in the business of making stuff that lasts, they’re in the business of selling stuff that lasts as long as they want it too.

Is there such a thing as a spark fire counter (on a modern cars), that counts the number of fires to determine spark wear instead of mileage and display "engine check" and on-dashboard message when counter is up about sparks replacement? Would that be more precise than mileage counting? Even better, is there a sensor (i.e., spark voltage) to detect worn sparks? Or both, sensor and counter (that combination might detect/indicate some other problem(s) with the engine)...

Dear @bsimic29, Modern control units theoretically have the ability to measure the number of sparks, the rise in ignition voltage and other parameters and use this to determine the spark plug wear. The implementation of such a wear simulation is the responsibility of the vehicle manufacturer. Kind regards

Dear @mikotorifky4070, In this video we decided to show a simplified comparison between Nickel and Precious metal spark plug wear behaviour in general. As we have a wide range of precious metals in our spark plug portfolio, we chose on of them, Iridium in this case. Best regards

Isn’t the basic thermostat on many car making the exact same thing, except disengaging the impeller? What is the expected reliability of the clutch of the pump? Besides, this seems to be for ICE vehicle, innovation could be in BEV.

Dear @FrancoisTCS, thank you for your comment. Even with a thermostat the liquid is still floating in the inner cooling circuit (engine only not radiator). The temperature increase in floating liquid takes longer than for standing still liquid. Also, The impeller is always engaged. The flow is stopped when the impeller is covered by the shutter. There is no clutch in the water pump. The application is intended for ICE, particularly for Diesel with high efficiency and low heat losses. In a BEV the water pump would be powered and controlled by an electric motor. Best regards, your Bosch Mobility team
