Hi Marvin, I just did some testing of this technique for 2 hours. It works but the layer of copper doesn't adhere well to the substrate, I can remove the copper with just rubbing a little with my thumb. I also cannot can a uniform coating and I'm experimenting with differents things to get this fixed. I am trying to get faster electroplating times with resin 3d printed parts and I think this galvanic deposition would be worth if it. Have you got any tips or something new to say about this technique ? Thank you.

Yeah Copper is not adhering well to the graphite, which is not unexpected as graphite is very hydrophobic and a lubricant. Have

I got an electroless nickel and plastic actuator kit both from Caswell. I’m missing something in the process. In testing so far all I’ve been able to get is a splotchy result. Can you give any pointers or recommendations? I feel dumb because I plate chrome.

You are missing the Wetting Agent and/Or Flame Treatment. Both individually and combined will reduce the water surface tension on the piece

Thank you I use several plastics and also fiberglass resin for 3D modeling. I believe I’m going to have to do some research. I’m also wondering if mechanical abrasion to make a textured surface would help.

You can’t do galvanic copper plating in a pro workshop, you will get laughed at , galvanic is for a home adventurer with miniature items . It won’t last the adhesion test in traditional electroplating procedures.
@nicamarvin3 ай бұрын
Read on The History of the Process, it was started in The 1800s for Electrotyping Typing Molds, when all they could use was giant Zinc/Arsenic Batteries, Before this a Giant type mold would take about a week to be fully plated in Copper and with this process it was shortened to only a few days because it made the piece more conductive than graphite/plumbago

Can you please share the details of the reducer? Also, did you use the electroless nickel plating solution directly or did you water it down as per Caswell's instructions?
@nicamarvin6 ай бұрын
Hello, I sent you an email with the Formula and additional info. When using the Caswell Electroless process I plate the parts at a lower temperature of about 155-160 no more than that and it works. The reducer is simply just Nickel Sulfate as prewash just before electroless nickel, you can skip it if you like.
