When Great Britain was Great Britain and there was snow on the ground, windows frosted on the inside of the non double glazed windows,coal in the great, stockings on the mantlepiece, christmas cake made at home a month early a hole left in the top too put brandy in, just some of the real Christmas, it ended at childhood and since then never have bothered with the superficial commercial rubbish dished out today.....

It’s Saturday the 5th October 2024. We are hosting daughter & her Beau this year & already the Mrs is panicking. I’ve already being instructed to think of Christmas Eve entertainment, it’s bloody October 😩.

@@nojwod Such a great idea. I don't have the book or the records but it seems much easier to follow the course with your video version. I've noticed one or two minor typos in the subtitles--would they be worth the effort to correct? Thank you for making these videos and preserving this interesting and enjoyable course!

@@nojwod That makes sense. These are truly very well done. I've been looking at "vintage" language courses recently, so this was an excellent find. There's a certain charm to these lessons that you don't see in the apps that most people use now.

I like Christmas pudding and mince pies. I am usually full up after the Christmas Day meal (who isn’t) but I will always have Christmas Pudding with custard, and several mince pies over the Christmas period. I always loved them, but somebody said years ago when I was at my works’ Christmas dinner, that it is unlucky to refuse them, so I never do. They are too nice to refuse anyway, I find Christmas pudd and mince pies comforting. 🥳

I'm sorry but I'm a humbug. I'm a man in his 40s, and to me Christmas Day is just a normal day. A complete waste of time and money to buy cards, presents etc. I'm afraid it's for children, not for adults, I'm sorry but it's true.

Geoffrey Palmer is the perfect narrator for this series. He already sounds gloomy reading his script. Jack Dee is another gloomy soul, but he would add a different gloominess

This was my first airshow in a long list of many airshows' i've seen, and as I recall it was a rainy weekend and very muddy. It was the first time time I saw a jet fighter with a very fast fly by of a RAAF Mirage, it sent shivers down my spine.

Rory Odonoghue. (Thin Arthur) One brilliant and unique musician. He had a band called "the cool bananas". My husband saw them play once in Newcastle. He said they were very professional, and very original. And Rory was amazing. A lost talent. So sorry he's no longer with us.
