Speaking of the test of time, I have colored pencil portraits I did of my calico and tortie cats made from a staedtler watercolor pencil set I received as a Christmas present as a teen but never wetted, just used as a colored pencil and hung on my walls framed which now lasted over 20 years and still look beautiful. I have seen ink fade very often but cannot recall faded colored pencils. 30 years after gifted watercolor pencils and I just started to actually use them playing with a project I am working on with water and love them.

This is honestly the MOST informative and complete video I have seen over the past several weeks of searching for EXACTLY how to start painting. Most videos seem to start AFTER a few steps have been completed and leave out a lot of information. This makes me feel more confident in begin my journey. Both of my grandfather's and a few other family members were painters, so I feel I may have some inborn talent. Hope it helps! 😅

I have both prismacolor and the polychromos ( don’t have the funds to get the Luminace lol ) and I must say I prefer the polychromos. I can’t really explain it more than it just feels better. I think I prefer firmer pencils. I don’t have the full set of polychromos, but I do hope I get it for my birthday or Christmas next month ❤

Hi @xx_robotkrew_xx1446 I have never bought the entire set of any of the pencils - I just bought a smaller set then gradually built them up as I needed them (still doing this - ordered my first leaf green polychromos last week !!!) - This is just the way I prefer to do it as I am on a budget. Depending on what region you are in, there are are many suppliers that sell all 3 brands open stock ✨👩🏻‍🎨✨🎨✨

Very good video! Another thing to consider is that oil paints are pellicular which means that the oil will coat the pigment particles and will form a water repellent barrier. Normal acrylics are cementitious and without anything else being added to them or put over them will form a rather porous paint film as compared to oils and will be far more welcoming to the drying oils of oil paints than dried oils will be welcoming to the water in wet acrylics. That's my theory and my experience at any rate. I agree that mixing oils and acrylics is not a good idea. It can be done because I have managed to do it but I haven't got 50 or 60 to 100 years to test out the dried film. And under normal circumstances it is hard for normal oils and acrylics to mix. Water mixable oils and acrylics would mix a lot easier but once again testing of the paint film to be sure of what you have would actually take a long time. But the main reason I don't do it is I see no reason for it. Oils on top of acrylics, as you pointed out, have a lot of advantages. At any rate, I wish the best for you and I'm going to watch a lot more of your videos.

This is a very well done video. Thank you. I bought a Masterson palette about a year ago and it's almost impossible to get the lid off, so I've never used it. Was hoping to find someone else who had the same problem and found the solution, but it sounds like the lid on yours works fine.

@@SpectrumArtStudio Thanks for responding :). I think mine's defective, because the only way I can get the lid off is to hold it vertically and REALLY muscle it off. If you've got a wet palette inside, that's not going to work.

My top is 1- Caran d’Ache luminance. As smooth as premiers, vibrant, very blendable and you can do layer over layer over layer over layer and never get over saturated 2-Prismacolor premier. Butterly smooth easy and fast to apply, very blendable but four layers and you get saturated 3-Faber Castell polychromos. Vibrant but very hard over all; to blend and to apply. Takes longer to finish and very tiring for the pressure that has to be applied.

@SpectrumArtStudio
@SpectrumArtStudio 3 ай бұрын
Hi @LisbethNoerbach I am not familiar with bleached linseed oil only standard linseed oil and as the gamblin fluid contains linseed oil,I think this would be fine. I guess the reason that you would prefer to use the bleached is because of the linseed oil yellowing. Best thing is to try it out on a test piece and the true test would be in a years time but I dont see there being any issue - alternatively, contact gamblin direct ✨👩🏻‍🎨✨🎨✨

@@SpectrumArtStudio Thank you so much for helping me. Yes, I bought the linseed oil 2 years ago as "bleached" and I think it was becuase of what you say, to avoid yellowing. The gamblin solvent free fluid I have is made from safflower oil. I was a bit unsure if I can mix it with the linseed oil, but maybe it is safe enough if I just stay with the "fat over lean", and mix more oil in the top layers.
