Uh oh. Sounds like something in your gearbox isn't happy. It's going into limp mode to protect itself from further damage. The best thing to do is to get it to a reputable garage ASAP for a thorough diag to see what is happening in there.

That’s not strictly 100% correct. If the dangerous fail is repaired you CAN continue to drive until the original expiry date if you had it tested early.
@ccmgarages4 ай бұрын
BUT, you'd have to have a retest to prove that the dangerous fail had been repaired which, depending on how early you had the test done, could change the expiry date. The main point we're trying to get across here is that the MOT system is live, and once its failed, it's failed.
@Raymond47744 ай бұрын
@@ccmgarages that’s not the case though. You can carry on driving until the original expiry date as long as you’ve fixed the dangerous fail. A fail does not override the existing expiry date.

@@Raymond4774 Hi Ray, let's take an example; you bring in a car early ( 2 weeks before expiry of old mot ) for an mot and it gets a dangerous fail for let's say a tyre with chords exposed. You should not use this car on the road until this dangerous fail is repaired, but if you had a spare wheel with a good tyre and put that onto the car then yeah no reason why you can't use the car until the old mot expires It all gets very confusing eh ! What gets me is how some 'advisories' are actually quite concerning and I'm not just talking about worn tyres. I'm currently looking for a used car and one which came up had "surface rust" listed as an advisory on the last non-dealer MoT. If underside rust is so bad as to be picked up on then I'm going to give that a wide berth *even if* the dealer claims it's been welded.
@ccmgarages5 ай бұрын
Think of it of more like we're 'advising' you to get this fixed sooner rather than later. It's not of immediate danger, but it does need keeping an eye on. As you've said, the MOT record becomes super handy when you're looking for a new car.
