Very interesting Heath. I’d love to operate your layout one day. It seems very organized. I see the industries are colour coded. Do certain cars have certain industries or all cars fair game? I just watched bits and pieces of the replay. Also, does each car have its own card?

Frequently or conventionally tracks are numbered 1 to n, from nearest edge of layout to back for each industry or switching location or staging area. Weather wheelsets for flat car or gondola loads to rail company infrastructure, i.e. Near RIP track.
@HumancityJunction19 күн бұрын
Good idea to make some flatcar loads. I am numbering from the mainline out, as that has been the most common on the layouts I have operated on. The edge of the layout doesn’t really exist to the layout operations. The 4th wall is a made up construct that is required in modeling. But as an engineer, the tracks are from the mainline you arrive on to the outside of the yard.
@Kennedywh19 күн бұрын
one other thought, can/should the return moves be forced to move from industry to yard to staging rather than from industry directly to staging?
@HumancityJunction19 күн бұрын
This would be possible for the North Yard, but not sure there is any way to really do that with the Car Float. I have dropped cars on the mainline at the yard entrance, run around them and shoved into staging. So not really going all the way into the yard. Theoretically, the North Interchange is past the North Yard, not next to it. So the cars would need to pass through the yard to get from the industries to staging. One day when/if I have more space, that is the plan.
@Kennedywh19 күн бұрын
In lieu of a timetable, think about should an operator try to perform car card work in the most efficient manner possible, that being fewest moves in the least accumulated length of movements and then shortest amount of time. That might be opposite of railroaders on the clock unworried by costs of fuel and interruption/delay of other team members.
@HumancityJunction19 күн бұрын
Bill, what I cannot decide is whether I should determine the order or if I should let the operators make the choices.
@Kennedywh19 күн бұрын
@@HumancityJunction the crews will work best making their own choices but should always be incentivized to make the company most efficient, like most profitable … but you know its only model railroading, eh??? Still, I suppose you could meter the electricity used to compare crews’ efficiency… nahh….

@@HumancityJunction Thank you Heath for the invite. Maybe one day when my work schedule lightens up, I will get to participate. At NYSME, we got to do a couple of operating sessions back on the last Monday of August and September. It made use of car cards based on Erie Lackawanna operations in Bergen County in the late 1960's time period. The member who put it all together worked as a towerman briefly around 1968 or 1969 and he did the project (from what I understand) to also get some credit for becoming an NMRA Master Modeler. If we get to do it again, I will let you know in case you would like to and are able to. It took around 4 hours depending on how efficient people were. Again, thank you and be well, V

Hi. Thanks for your Helpful videos - Great! I have followed your video firmware upgrade instructions alongside the Digitrax written Firmware upgrade instructions I'm using a DCS52 (PR4 built in) to upgrade my DT602D and UT6D... firmware upgrade failed, the keypad keeps blinking even after removing and reinserting batteries... I've tried 8 times now. Digitrax support said I could ship it to them - but that is not the proper solution, as you've said as well!!! Can I RESET the throttle to factory defaults and start over - at least get it functional again
