in fast pace the default is 1 book, while 0 or 2 books is situational depending on spawn and build, ofc for some factions there are exception, like astra never building book etc. Any more than 2 books i would consider trolling, and often 2 books still is

@@Xonnas astra gets the most research in the game by default, from their crane, from their settlers and from their armoury. infantry Astra doesn't need much research, they rather put their focus on putting out resources and units. Vehicle astra gets a lot of research from almost every building they make, so building a book on top of that rather than an extra armoury or ore is grieving.

@@Xonnas the single reason to get early research in this game is to unlock your cities faster. you want to settle somewhere between turn 15-20 and 2nd 18-25. Astra doesnt need a book to do this, maybe if they spawn on 0 research bonus, but you usually want to settle next to ruins of vaul if possible, and 9 of 10 games you have this option. If you do not have a ruin of vault and also no snow then you can consider building 1 book as astra, but its a much weaker build than just getting your research from natural sources, 1-3 outpost and your crane and an armoury before your setler building, and after that it ramps up as you make another 3-5 production letting you easily stay on par with other factions that have built a book.
