How safe is it for staffs working in PET scan environment
@radiationsafety4 ай бұрын
There is no simple answer to this question, as there are many factors which would impact the risks associated with the use of ionizing radiation in any given workplace. The doses and associated health risks at any workplace involving the use of radionuclides in Canada are regulated so that they are kept As Low As Reasonably Achievable, or ALARA. This includes workplaces which administer nuclear medicine, such as PET/CT. It is imperative that such workplaces implement a radiation protection program to minimize the risk to staff, the public, and the environment. The International Commission on Radiological Protection currently has a task group on the topic of Radiological Protection in PET and PET/CT icrp.org/icrp_group.asp?id=183, which is expected to publish a guidance document in the future.

What effect does the current and rapidly speeding up, geo-magnetic excursion or (north and south poles that are flipping) have on all of this? If our shield is weakening wouldn't that have an effect on the level of uvab or c radiation that would be available to us for exposure? If so please explain. thanks for your time

If the Earth was to lose its magnetic field, it would render Earth's surface uninhabitable. According to the National Centres for Environmental Information, part of the NOAA in the USA, "in the short-term, there is no real change to Earth’s environment and no threat to life due to a pole flip." On their website, they show how the magnetic pole has wandered over the last 50 years: www.ncei.noaa.gov/news/tracking-changes-earth-magnetic-poles.

Good overview of the development of the Occupational Health and Safety Act in Ontario. I would also be interested in hearing about when smoking was banned underground in the uranium mines, and similarly for diesel engines.
