My 5 acre property has been invaded by potato Vine. Pulling them out is almost impossible. The vines are super strong, the potatoes grow underground. Only plus is they die back in fall/winter and you can pick up some of the potatoes. These are so aggressive that the potatoes will sprout and spread even if placed in a bucket with no soil , it would be really helpful if we could treat aggressively. There is no way that if you have an acre or more , you will eradicate them on your own

I’m going to try this. I ordered some giant cold hardy bamboo. Vivax it was called. They sent root rhizomes which I have planted and carefully watered for 2 months. I was about to give up, but after watching your video, I think I will continue to water them for another few months. Thanks for the video!

I have just picked up a couple of fresh bamboo branches here on Vashon island. When I get home I’ll put them in water and see if some roots will sprout up before I put them in the ground. We’ll see…

What would be the best and easiest way to get rid of a 10x10 area of bamboo? Previous owners planted it and it is way out of control. I cannot sit and cut and paint each one there is way too much.
@Greguk444Ай бұрын
This is what I did that worked. Trying to Kill bamboo with chemicals won’t get rid of the root Matt and probably won’t actually kill it long term. chop all the bamboo stalks right down to the ground. I then used a square sharp saw and hammer to slice the root Matt up into squares. I then dug around the bamboo with a trench to get a big heavy pick axe under it which with a lot of effort levered the bamboo roots square out of the ground. I repeated this for each sliced square. This is not quick or easy, but it’s the only way I found to completely eliminate the bamboo roots. Once the root Matt is removed I went over the area where it was located and dug it up to make sure all the little roots were removed. This is a very important step because bamboo can regrow from one of these small roots.

potato on the branches!??
@nofishing56163 ай бұрын
so many of the videos suggest that you have to grow shoots from the sweet potato first, twist them off, get the roots started and then plant. But if, as your video shows, I plant the whole potato, will I get several potatoes in the hole at harvest. I placed a sweet potato bottom down in water and got a good root system. If I plant it, will sweet potatoes form at the end of those roots?
@rosabeana1131Ай бұрын
It technically should from what I've read. I was thinking of doing this first as well before I plant it into the ground

What's your favorite way to cook Seminole Pumpkins?
@TiaSilvasy3 ай бұрын
I slice the pumpkin in half, side to side and save the seeds. Then cut into slices about 3/4 inch thick. On a baking pan, I coat each side with olive oil and then salt and pepper the top. Bake for 15 minutes at 400 degrees F and flip, salt and pepper the top and bake another 15 minutes. Or you could peel the rind and cut in cubes and do a similar method. It's delicious!

Is bacillus thuringiensis effective against all caterpillars ? Does it affect butterflies and moths ?
@TiaSilvasy3 ай бұрын
Yes it works on all caterpillars, the good ones and the bad ones. The caterpillar eats it when you spray the BT on the leaves, so it would not affect adult butterflies and moths since they don't eat leaves. Don't spray your butterfly garden plants with BT.
@indianb19183 ай бұрын
@@TiaSilvasy Thanks for the reply. You mean don't spray flowering plants with BT ? What do I spray on my flowering plants to keep caterpillars away ?
@TiaSilvasy3 ай бұрын
@@indianb1918 Learn which plants the caterpillars of butterflies eat, these are called larval host plants, don't spray those.
@indianb19183 ай бұрын
@@TiaSilvasy Thanks for the answer. OK I understand. So if BT is sprayed on flowering plants does it affect adult butterflies ?
@indianb19183 ай бұрын
@@TiaSilvasy Thanks so I can still use BT on my flowering plants without affecting adult butterflies. I wont spray on host plants though.

We have a variety that is white and its soup is sour, you have to drain out it first before adding peanut butter and dome wayer to balance the sour. The peanut butter makes a thick soup and is eaten with sweet potatoes where i come from
