As known, each phrase has a head. Yet, when an adjective phrase has more than adjective what I shall do. For example, I looked at the [ the scarred and scrambled] valleys. Or I'm about to buy the eye-catching, stylish dress. Thank you in advance, the thought that I have someone to seek when I get in trouble reassures me alot.

There is something called compound adjective as you mentioned in the examples above, so we consider them both heads of the AdjP. Thus, scarred and scrambled both are heads of the AdjP (scarred and scrambled)...

The end of the story is an NP consisting of det(the), head noun (end) , (of) is preposition, the (det) and then story is noun = the head in the end of the story is (end) but in the prepositional phrase (of the story), the head is (of)
