I’m fairly sure an uncle of mine is crossing the bottom of Peter Street as the car comes round, LOL. What’s striking about this video is how little the street scape has changed, architecturally (a few pubs and shops have changed hands, particularly Cafolla’s, McHale’s, Rosbeg Stores etc. but that’s about it). Dunno whether this is due to it being a planned town or Westport being a tight community.

I got married in New York in 1986 and spent 10 weeks in Ireland on my honeymoon and getting straightened out with US immigration. I spent a couple of nights in Westport on the way to or from Achill. Somehow this video almost looked like it was in black and white .... the drab weather made it look that way I think.

Nice footage, thanks for sharing. I was 4 at the time and remember visiting Westport at least once a week for shopping. Its surprising how little is different now Sure, all the wharehouses have been rebuilt, but the shops are the same and Allergan is still the same colour!

Just came back from Westport, the buildings and the town is still recognisable, especially along by the river. except now it's jammed packed with cars.

My father's from Westport, and I was born in this year. The place honestly hasn't changed much from the looks of it, and I'm not sure whether that's a good or bad thing!
