Omg i cant believe i found this!!! Im crying r n. I'm just nearing the end of your book running with sherman. I had a mustang quarter mare & a BEAUTIFUL donkey, miss B We went all over the foothills in little tujunga cyn together. That was 20+ years ago. Divorced now. My life is gone. I feel like a donkey is the cure but im completely alone in what feels like a no-win situation. Memories...hoofs clicking on rocks, the one time i made miss B stay home & came back to find she'd painted the corral a bright green (poop she conjured up from the depths of her gut for her message: we'll have no more of THAT!) & the times at night when id lay on her back, head on her butt, & look at the stars as she grazed. I adore donkeys. I adored the Wonderful People in your book. Im feeling very alone & your book got me through anothr day. Thank u for that...& thank you flower & sherman & matilda.

Cannot say enough about this story and well written book. From the standpoint of a life long animal professional, a once upon a time runner, and a lover of the countryside and all things adventure. It checks all the boxes. Read it, listen to it… get addicted.

My PT recommended this book to me. I am seeing her after falling and breaking my wrist in an ultramarathon in Moab two weeks ago. I read Born to Run and loved it. I was happily surprised to see it was the same author. This book hit me in so many ways I can’t even explain. Let’s just say it was a positive light during a very upsetting time in my life. I do believe I will be looking for a donkey to race with in 2022. Thank you Chris for sharing your story about Sherman. I am inspired!

Love this book. Will read it every year! My book club members were concerned about the health status of the young people in the book, and want to know if their families gave permission for so much to be disclosed. Anyone know?

A friend loaned me Running With Sherman and I thoroughly enjoyed this very informative and heart warming book which has a great story to tell. I ran trails in Colorado for many years with my old dog, whose ashes are up on one of the mountain passes we frequented, so I understand how special the animal/human can be in sharing outdoor endeavors. When I'm back in Colorado this summer I'll have to check out a burro race!

Born to Run is one of my favorite books and I just read about his new book in a Time magazine at a doctor's office. It was meant to be! Now I have another book to look forward to! My neighbor has a donkey named Mano and it's so cute to listen to him bray and another donkey on the other side of the creek answers back!

Just finishing this book. It is a GREAT read. McDougall proved with "Born to Run" that no only can he write, more important is that his perspective on life is unique. Like B2R, this is a most wonderful cornucopia of different aspects of people, animals, life, lifestyles, etc. etc. I am now at the point of sadness that my reading of this wonderful story is to end. AH, such is life. This book may end up being in that unique for me category of books read twice.

I also read the his book about barefoot running. It did motivate me to run different and allowed me to run further than I ever thought was possible. Will reading the next book motivate me to rescue a donkey?
