I remember my mentor had a series of mouse lines that figured out something was up and would just...stop...when the experiment was ongoing. The little shits knew...I swear to god. Also, the psych department bribed students with Chic Fi La meals.

@@psydere i love psychology, and also philosophy, altho not all obviously. from my experience, some parts of it, if you havent before reached a similar conclusion through your set of experiences and thoughts, you WONT understand it no matter how much your read, for eg theres this theory that uk.. everyone is the same, and the everyone is connected, to all of the universe as well as other humans, everyone is just made up of the "conciousness" whatever that means to u, the essence is the same, its just theyre isolated in their own "bottles" or vessles, and ig it makes sense cuz some ppl when they take some type of drugs, experience a temporary ego death, wherein they report feeling "one" with every living creature, as well as the rest of the universe. i spent a lot of my time as a child, not having many friends, lost in wierd thoughts like these and engaging in some thought experiment, ("what if theres a universe other than ours, where theres stuff that our human senses wont be able to grasp and we cant even imagine or smth?" "im me, how am i not someone else? ") so i kind of get it, if you havent done the same, maybe you wont really "get" it right? you may understand what theyre saying, on a surface level, kinda like a psychopath who hasnt experienced guilt or sympathy can read about them but will never "get" it truly.

So midi-chlorians. *cracks knuckles* Here we go. Midi-chlorians were introduced in Ep 1, with Qui Gon and Obi Wan explaining things to Anakin with regards to the force. There is a scene where it is explained to Anakin, basically a five year old, that this is why he has such force potential etc. Several of the Online content sources for this subject are incomplete, as they do not reference the novelizations of the movie. The movie novelizations are canon, as the movies, their novels, and the tv shows are all the canon we have. The rest is just, funsies, until it gets put on a screen. The Correlation Argument support: The deleted scene that is in the novel that explains this: The scene where Qui Gon and Obi Wan are discussing Anakin's medical tests is further expanded in the novels with the full script, including the bits cut for time. In the novel the reader finds a bit more about Midi-chlorians that answers most of the memes questions. This extra scene interrupts the flow of the movie vs the book so it was cut. To explain I will use analogy. You have very loamy soil, full of organic matter, sand, silt, clay, with proper hydration and mineral content. You have poor soil, with no organic matter, poor drainage, few minerals, and very sandy. The loamy soil is full of microorganisms that are beneficial to the plants. The poor soil is barren of microorganisms. Midi-chlorian biology is poorly understood because the species can colonize any living thing, no matter the biology and thrive *if they are strong in the Force or have the potential to be strong in the Force* . There aren't machines that can force...scan (for lack of a better word), but their are tests to see if someone is chocked full of these microorganisms. Similar to in biotech where if I or say Phy wanted to insert a gene into a microorganism, we'd use a reporter gene that we could detect *"attached"* to the gene we're trying to insert. So if we detect the reporter, the cell has the gene insertion. If the kid has boo coos of midi-chlorians, and the only way you could have midi-chlorians is if the kid is rich, loamy soil, then QED the kid is rich loamy soil. I.e., he's strong in the force. Not because he's chocked full of midi-chlorians. He's chocked full of midi-chlorians because he's strong in the force. Furthermore: There are several, questionably moral, scientists in the old content trying some rather unsanctioned experiments to better understand/take advantage of this. For example, just injecting a non force sensitive individual with massive doses of unethically "organically harvested" midi-chlorians ends poorly. This is further supported in current canon. Without going into details, one of the characters was trying to bring online the Dark Trooper program from the old canon. The actor they got for this character is rather good so I am dancing around plot points here , I don't want to be that guy. One of his sub programs is trying to get force juiced, mass-cloned, super soldiers any way how. And several of the Moff's (high ranking imperial leaders who have really-really high clearance) were rolling their eyes at that. Because they noted the multiple midi-chlorian failed attempts. And that it takes more than injections to make it work. So you can't juice your way into force choking. The Other Arguments: Whew lads. The counter to the above support is that there is a plethora of content that also gives other reasons, other explanations and other supports. That's the thing when you have a franchise that is like half a century old with countess authors working on it. Things get muddy. Quite frankly, the best I can say is whatever you like from media that you've consumed is basically canon enough. Trying to science the magic typically ends up in muddy waters like this. Would it have helped future authors if that section was left in the live action movie? Maybe? Maybe the later stuff that contradicted it would be less contradictory. Or not. There's a quote from 40k when it comes up to canon debates that I keep for star wars and comic book stuff "Everything is canon, but not all canon is truth". <- put in by the company so they'd have wiggle room. (Followed up by "Except Ian Watson's Inquisitor...that ain't canon".) IYKYK. That and "Be Excellent to everyone" <- Bill and Ted. Hope that helps.

do you feel that you actually helped people as a mental health worker?
@psydere
@psydere 3 ай бұрын
Great question! My experience was kind of mixed. I know a few people who I definitely helped, either directly or by facilitating something behind-the-scenes. The autistic person I mentioned was a good example of the latter. However, a lot of the work did feel like I was going through motions of supporting people rather than actually making meaningful change. For example, I helped with a few psycho-education groups which were meant to teach people life skills, but I'm not convinced they did much.

The thing you mentioned about the person not getting diagnosed with autism for years almost happened to me. During the time when I was with CAHMS for a period of a few months (I was like 14-15), I was randomly playing TF2 one night and heard someone in voicechat say "I have aspergers", and I looked it up and thought "this describes me... I need to bring it up with CAHMS" The next appointment coming up with CAHMS was supposed to be my last ever appointment, I don't remember why, but I'd been seeing two people within the same building on a rotating basis and in the last appointment they both got together to discuss their conclusions and how to go forward. Towards the very end of the appointment, I mentioned "oh yeah, I heard this term aspergers the other day and when I looked it up it was really relatable, do you think I could have that?" and their response was "well, we actually thought of that a few times" They were legit just never gonna tell me. I would not know to this day that I'm autistic if I hadn't been in the right place at the right time which was a random game lobby. I didn't interact with any NHS mental health services after I got my official diagnosis months later, I was too scared after that situation and a few others. A lot of my friends are scared of the NHS too and won't seek the help they need until they have the money for private, which could be never.

Well, I didn't get diagnosed with ADHD and autism until 26, and I have them pretty rough. I didn't even finish school and had lotta problems holding jobs... Until i got medicated, lol. Pretty similar situation like you, I had to tell them specifically about these for them to mention it with something along the lines of "oh yea, we know. You just realized?" on the last appointment. I just gone private after hearing that, I had the money but I also had some trust in NHS back then.

@@iamerror1699 that's so sad to hear... everyone should have a lawful right to know if a professional thinks there's some chance of neurodivergence. I don't know what goes through these people's heads when they decide to not tell us. Maybe they think we're fine enough to get on in life thinking we're normal, but we're literally masking in appointments because that's literally all we know, of course we'll come across as "fine enough". Any other potential reason for withholding the information is actively malicious, but it's the NHS so I think it's just sheer stupidity and lack of individual care
