Can you show an example of how single fold bias tape is used?

Everything you made is beautiful! I especially love the Dara blouse and Lisa sweater! I'm a beginner and haven't ventured from sewing bags to making garmets yet, but your channel has me excited to try in 2025!

I've been sewing for 20 years and i didn't know what those plastic things were for lol. I usually use my start-stopper (piece of fabric to conserve the thread, begin and end sewing with it) and fold it if needed

I never knew this!! Always wondered what those funky little plastic bits were for!! I looked in the list of what came with my machine, but nothing sounded like it went with what they looked like. This helps tremendously!!

I'm a seamtress, I can see just about anything....except swimwear...my machine eats the fabric....the fabric slips and slides all over the place, and when I try to cut with a rotary blade, the fabric gets pushed i to my cutting mat and gets stuck. Grrrr.
@SeamworkVideoКүн бұрын
I hear you! Swimsuit fabric can be tricky to work with. Sounds like your cutting mat has a lot of deep grooves in it from use and like your rotary blade needs a refresh.

Does the elastic thread need to be pulled taught in the bobbin?
@SeamworkVideo2 күн бұрын
You should wind the bobbin gently by hand rather than by machine. If the bobbin is wound by machine, it'll stretch the elastic thread too much.

One more thing: Get a sewing machine with a steel interior and mechanism. Springer is making them with plastic, and they wear out very fast and need servicing very frequently.

The most difficult problem I have with my serger is that I am LEFT handed and there are days when I just can’t thread the darn thing, because some days I can’t get in there properly since I’m at the WRONG angle. Right handed world; left handed problems.
@SeamworkVideoКүн бұрын
I'm sorry! Do tweezers help at all?
@August84118Күн бұрын
@ my serger came with a nice set of bent tweezers. I’m fairly ambidextrous, but there are just some times when I just can’t get it threaded (I’m getting older and my hands don’t always cooperate 😊)properly and, of course, the machine doesn’t work properly. So I put it aside, wait until I’m in a better frame of mind, and try again. The positive? I really understand how the machine works now!

I needed a cutting table, plenty of work space, and some storage for my rulers and templates, and didn’t want to spend too much to fulfill the purpose. I watched a video by JefftheBerninaguy, and he suggested checking Husky’s work benches at HD which didn’t cost an arm and a leg (like some furniture can). Glad I did. Not only does the work bench provide a perfect fit for my cutting mat/work space/and two long drawers for the rulers, it’s manually adjustable for height (don’t have to worry about power outages or repairing a motor!) and looks nice with a wood top that’s easy to clean. Wheels are provided so I can even move it around as a mobile sewing work station! Prices vary by the length, but a 52” is very reasonably priced. Your list of sewing items was very interesting, especially about the clamps. Very handy when “sandwiching” quilt tops and batting over a large flat surface.

Don't just label the fabric shears, hide them when not in use. New and non sewists seriously underestimate the importance of dedicated shears.
@SeamworkVideoКүн бұрын
Yes, you have to teach others to respect the fabric shears!

@SeamworkVideoКүн бұрын
Interfacing silk can be tricky for sure! Try just applying pressure when pressing, not ironing back and forth. That should prevent bubbles and distortion.
