The main jet is attached to the jetblock and is nowhere near the needle--the gas filters you have on the bowl vents will cause a surge not being hooked up to the lid of the airbox where they were designed to be mounted.

Do you need to sync the carbs after diaphragm replacement.

Syncing your carbs is essential maintenance on this bike. If you haven't taken the linkages apart they will be where they were last synced. However if you have torn diaphragms it's impossible to get the bike running right. Old BMW flat twins had this problem. When one tore the bike was really low on power. I used to carry a bicycle tube repair kit with me. A patch would get me home before the petrol melted the glue. ;)
